The pick of the videos featured on Promonews in March is a showcase of talent on both sides of the camera. There's nothing here that wouldn't look great on a much bigger screen than your phone - or laptop.
In the UK the month saw a trend for female pop artists working with female directors - Griff with Candice Lo (above); JADE with Lucrecia; Lillie Eiger with Chloe Qisha; and the returning icons Sugababes with Dora Paphides. In addition, India Harris continued her work with Confidence Man with her fourth video for the Aussie duo and Lea Otovic for the Brighton rockers Lambrini Girls.
Elton John's new album with Brandi Carlile has been much praised and the pair lured the precocious features director Xavier Dolan to direct the video for Swing To The Fences; meanwhile HAIM, who usually work with Paul Thomas Anderson on their videos, found a very satisfactory replacement for the video for the first single from their new album in Camille Summers-Valli. BRTHR went full pop for JENNIE and Dua Lipa while veteran director and virtual production advocate Rich Lee created a dark superhero comedy for Jackson Wang.
Elliott Gonzo also turned to virtual production very effectively for Goldie's team-up with Casisdead; Lauzza continues to make lo-fi VFX look very cool with two videos in the past month. The long-term collab between The Reids and Mura Masa resumed with an uplifting doc cum video; Seb from Viagra Boys met his match in Eoin Glaister's comedy; Andrew Thomas Huang embraced AI very distinctively.
Meanwhile, FKA Twigs and Jordan Hemingway satirised the music industry - and made a compelling case for bigger music video budgets. And there was much more besides...
