Our pick of the work featured here last month sees the pop video-making business moving into full-throttle eye-popping entertainment mode.As the medium fights back to retain and regain eyeballs - and also still make a big impact once its sliced to pieces for socials - we've entered a new era of maximalism. Also, we're getting new dimensions of brazen sexiness. Everyone is pulling out the stops. The evidence in the VOTM for April 2025 is here from LateMilk's latest for AJ Tracey, down to Charlotte Rutherford's Zara Larsson, a video hotter than an 18-wheel Mack Truck's radiator. And we get one thing or the other thing, or both, in the new videos for Bbyafricka, Doechii, Megan Thee Stallion, Obanjayar, PinkPantheress (the other one this past month by Charlotte Rutherford) and Yungblud (pictured). Then there's the impact of AI. Was April the month where it began to make some kind of sense? For different reasons the videos for The Darkness, and Snoop Dogg and friends, provide the evidence there. in both cases, the immense potential of the technology is still being controlled by humans. And then, as always, there was a whole lot of other stuff. We enjoyed that too!

The pick of the videos featured on Promonews in March is a showcase of talent on both sides of the camera. There's nothing here that wouldn't look great on a much bigger screen than your phone - or laptop. In the UK the month saw a trend for female pop artists working with female directors - Griff with Candice Lo (above); JADE with Lucrecia; Lillie Eiger with Chloe Qisha; and the returning icons Sugababes with Dora Paphides. In addition, India Harris continued her work with Confidence Man with her fourth video for the Aussie duo and Lea Otovic for the Brighton rockers Lambrini Girls.Elton John's new album with Brandi Carlile has been much praised and the pair lured the precocious features director Xavier Dolan to direct the video for Swing To The Fences; meanwhile HAIM, who usually work with Paul Thomas Anderson on their videos, found a very satisfactory replacement for the video for the first single from their new album in Camille Summers-Valli. BRTHR went full pop for JENNIE and Dua Lipa while veteran director and virtual production advocate Rich Lee created a dark superhero comedy for Jackson Wang. Elliott Gonzo also turned to virtual production very effectively for Goldie's team-up with Casisdead; Lauzza continues to make lo-fi VFX look very cool with two videos in the past month. The long-term collab between The Reids and Mura Masa resumed with an uplifting doc cum video; Seb from Viagra Boys met his match in Eoin Glaister's comedy; Andrew Thomas Huang embraced AI very distinctively.Meanwhile, FKA Twigs and Jordan Hemingway satirised the music industry - and made a compelling case for bigger music video budgets. And there was much more besides...

The pick of the videos featured here last month, from the global superstars to exciting new prospects and everything in between.February brought us a return-to-form blockbuster from Lady Gaga, intriguing visuals to accompany The Weeknd's new album, slick K-Pop entertainment from LISA and Jennie; a gentle outing for one of the UK's biggest artists, Sam Smith. At home there was strong work affirming the return of major label artists Joy Crookes, Cian Ducrot, Cat Burns, AJ Tracey & Jorja Smith - and then Little Simz popping up at the end of the month with a storming return.Much other good things too, from the leftfield, here and elsewhere - Rianne White's video for Black Country, New Road; Niall Trask and Alabaster Deplume, US directors MAMA's debut for Jarina De Marco; Self-Esteem and Peiers Dennis; Joe Connor's surfer film for Gregory Alan Isakov; Jim Londgen for Oracle Sisters once again. Plus the unexpected third Fontaines D.C. video by Luna Carmoon, bringing together the lead characters from the previous two (above). So whatever horrible sh*t was going on in the world at large, at least it turned out to be an encouraging month in terms of music and music videos for the coming year...
