beabadoobee 'Take A Bite' by Jake Erland

Rob Ulitski - 21st May 2024

Jake Erland directs a captivating video for beabadoobee, highlighting Bea's star quality with a Hollywood-style street scene, and a touch of Groundhog Day.

Bea performs Take A Bite, the first single from forthcoming new album This Is How Tomorrow Moves, amongst the hustle and bustle of life on a busy European city street, with the stylised look of a studio-set Hollywood musical.

Exuding a mixture of drama and glamour - with Erland working as DoP as well as director - her performance gains an additional sense of mystery as the street scene moves from day to night and then blacks out entirely. Then Bea returns to the street corner where she started, to repeat the move twice more, with the scene slightly more chaotic each time.

This is both a visually arresting and nostalgic concept and echoes other videos Erland has shot for her - like the London-set song-and-dance based A Night To Remember. But while retaining the texture of her edgier, grungy roots, its a definite statement about the next chapter for beabadoobee.
