The Rills vocalist Mitchell Spencer struggles to stay afloat in Ace Bowerman's stirring promo for Your Dad's Car.Stuck on the inside of a submerged vehicle, we see Spencer fight against the water, performing the track as he keeps dipping into the abysslike environment. Eventually, he lets himself sink, unwilling to keep on pushing on. "(The video) represents that feeling of trying to keep your head above water in the midst of any major emotional moments in your life," Bowerman explains. This idea has been visualised in a straightforward yet compelling way, and it's another excellent collaboration between the director and Lincoln-based band.

Sports Team return with a video directed by Dora Paphides made in the spirit of pop promos from the 1970s and '80s.The single I'm In Love (Subaru) marks a change in a musical direction for the erstwhile indie-rock outfit to an 80s-tinged pop-soul sound - replete with Spandau Ballet-style saxophone. The studio-set video duly pays homage to the period, with vocalist Alex Rice centre-stage amid his ST bandmates and a crucial prop - an era-appropriate Subaru car. The video plays with light and shadow to recreate the look of videos of the times, whilst elevating certain aspects to modern day standards."Working closely with the band, and [DoP] Tasha Duursma, we looked at a lot of Roxy Music vids and Spandau Ballet," reveals Paphides. "We wanted to make a homage to music videos of this era - from artists who may have been inspired by the Blitz club - but with some punchier, editorial, contemporary details."It needed to be part-editorial, part-music promo. [And] it was essential for us to shoot this with the types of grip/rigs that would’ve existed at the time for a real sense of authenticity."

Rosie Lowe drifts into the unconscious of a ruminating mind in the neutral space of a deserted London diner in Louis Hemming-Lowe's video for In My Head.Lowe takes on multiple roles - suited customer doing the crossword, waitress, and cook in the London caff - in a dreamlike world of sharply composed set-ups and animated inserts (a pumping heart, milk pouring out of a real jug onto a restaurant table). The focus is on small moments, that are repeated, which is a smart way to address a song which reflects the artist's concerns about the important stuff - life and death, birth and loss, youth and age. The London-based singer-songwriter has been making interesting videos all her career and here is another fine example where she cuts an intriguing figure. A short but sweet visual, packed full of creative flair and style.

Directing duo Broken Antenna's latest video for Hak Baker - their eighth - returns to Hak's home turf in London's East End once more. But after the critically acclaimed doc-style video for Wrong Side of the Street, for Hak's collab with Joe Armon Jones, they now swerve into gritty drama.The video for LUVLY features rising star Hero Fiennes Tiffin (The Woman King, After We Fall) and brings to life Hak’s own story, growing up on the Isle of Dogs. The song paints a portrait of a man who cannot receive the love from the woman who loves him - and poignantly, can’t love himself.That's visualised by Broken Antenna - Myles McAuliffe and Gustav Newby - in a whirlwind allegorical tale of a young man (played by Fiennes Tiffin), who on release from prison, quickly falls into his old ways - he falls foul of the local hood, played by Geoff Bell (The Business) - and the effect it has on the relationship with his devoted girlfriend. Through it's breathless narrative style, characterised by the fluid cinematography by Ahmet Husseyin, the ensemble cast and relentless pace forced by the cut by Ben Boullier, Broken Antenna build a full picture of the young man's nefarious situation. But similarly to the likes of Goodfellas - almost certainly an influence - this is not just about the gangsters' shady world. And when the real blow falls, it's not from a 'bad guy', and Hero doesn't see it coming. It's more evidence of a relationship, between Baker and Broken Antenna, that has been the one of the most creatively fruitful of the past few years.
