King Krule 'Comet Face' by CC Wade
Rob Ulitski - 14th Aug 2020
Archy Marshall, aka King Krule, takes an nighttime stroll through Peckham Rye and triggers a spooky, gory Gothic mystery, in CC Wade's riveting video for Comet Face.
Co-written by Wade and Archy’s brother Jack, it starts with Archy waking up on a park bench in his childhood home of Peckham, South London, then encountering period-costumed figures running from a wild, terrorizing beast. Angry, pitchfork-wielding locals are soon in breathless pursuit. And a climactic twist reveals the monster is much closer to home than Archy first thought.
Their first collaboration since the beautifully crafted, MVA-winning video for Biscuit Town in 2018, this is much more lo-fi and dramatically frenetic affair, but in its way, just as cinematic. The grainy aesthetic, cinematography has a B-movie vibe to it, while the storyline is straight out of classic horror movie territory.
The unremittingly murky London setting invokes Conan Doyle, James Whale, and also perhaps, John Landis's own early '80s tribute to classic horror, An American Werewolf In London. Surely we need a remake of that now...
