Gabrielle Aplin 'Salvation' by Zaiba Jabbar
UKMVA winner Zaiba Jabbar takes Gabrielle Aplin and co-star Mark Farrant on an emotional journey in this simple and slow-burning promo for Gabrielle's piano ballad Salvation.
Working with her regular DP Brian Fawcett, who delivers some beautiful photography and lighting, building in intensity as the music escalates, Zaiba makes great use of an open space complimenting the widescreen soundtrack.
"Gabby was really keen to use dance and choreography as the main performance for the film. Using this as our starting point I wanted to capture a beautiful and cinematic film through an emotive dance piece that alluded to an idea of coming through something that was difficult, dark or painful: An idea of coming out the other side and moving forward.
"This combined with the symbolic use of water throughout the film – a sense of purification – and it came together with the powerful performances from Gabby and Mark, lighting and the epic scale of the location. I think it helped elevate the otherworldly no-man’s feeling to the film that I wanted to create".
