Homespun has announced the return of its short film competition Yarns, continuing its mission to spotlight and support emerging unsigned filmmaking talent across the UK.&nbsp;For 2026, the competition returns with a new brief: 'Nostalgia', inviting filmmakers to explore our relationship with the past and how it shapes the stories we tell today.Entrants are invited to respond to the brief with a short treatment and script for an original film idea, up to five minutes in length. Three selected filmmakers will each receive £2,000 in funding, mentorship, and full post-production support from Homespun, Sine Audio Post, Freefolk, No.8, and 1920vfx.They will also have the option to shoot on 16mm film provided by competition sponsor Kodak, and their films will be entered into the Kinsale Sharks Short Film Awards. This year’s competition is presented in association with Park Pictures, CANADA, and Sine Audio Post.This year's Yarns competition follows the success of the 2025 edition, with the brief&nbsp; 'Disinfo', which saw a record number of submissions and an exceptional calibre of work, reinforcing Yarns as a platform for bold, original storytelling.This year, the jumping off point for entrants to Yarns is the evocative subject of Nostalgia, a subject that more or less affects everyone."As the future feels increasingly uncertain, we find ourselves drawn to the familiarity of what’s come before; old passions, old memories, old ideas… old socks. From fashion revivals to rockstar reunions, the further we move forward, the more we seem to look back," explain Homespun, in the announcement of this year's brief for the Yarns competition.Submissions are open until 11:59pm on May 21st. Entries should include a script and treatment. Having recently announced the filmmakers selected to make films on the subject of 'Disinfo' - this year's&nbsp;brief - Yarns has now revealed the experienced professionals&nbsp;who will mentor the filmmakers during the process of making their films.The mentors are director&nbsp;Georgi Banks-Davies, writer-director Luke Brookner and writer, director and producer Katie Lambert. From perfecting scripts to navigating post-production, the mentors have each been assigned a project, to challenge, champion&nbsp;and elevate the shorts being developed for this year’s timely and provocative brief - set by Homespun, the rising talent&nbsp;division of Stitch Editing.&nbsp;Georgi Banks-Davies is a BAFTA winning director. Her TV debut was as lead director on&nbsp;I Hate Suzie&nbsp;written by Lucy Prebble, and starring Billie Piper. She was the lead director on the sci-fi adaptation&nbsp;Paper Girls&nbsp;for Amazon, and Greek God opus&nbsp;Kaos&nbsp;for Netflix. She is currently in post production on the&nbsp;The Night Manager 2&nbsp;for BBC/Amazon, of which she directed the whole series. She has also directed many festival-screened shorts, most notably&nbsp;Garfield,&nbsp;selected for the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. Georgi is also a successful commercials director - represented by Rogue Films. She joins Yarns to mentor duo Ciara O’Rourke and Jack Clarke, bringing her experience in both realism and speculative fiction to their end-of-the-world fable&nbsp;Don’t Believe A Word I Say.“Yarns is one of the most exciting film competitions out there, throwing a light on new voices and talent, and giving them the platform to shine," she says.&nbsp;"It goes without saying I'm proper chuffed to be a part of the scheme, supporting a brilliant filmmaker to achieve their vision.
