Yes, Hamlet is a play by Shakespeare. And a cigar brand. But a Hamlet is a small village. Well, not even a village, really, more like a small group of houses. This particular Hamlet is populated with creative craftsmen, forging strong images and sounds, powerful content for new and old media, experimenting with form, structure and cutting edge technology. With Hamlet, we have created a place where talent finds a home; directors, producers, actors and writers with memorable stories to tell. They will join in, stay for a while and then maybe move on, but never without leaving their mark. Our Hamlet is open to anyone, visitors, guests, customers, or simply, the curious.- HAMLET is an international production company and operates out of Brussels, Paris, Berlin and Shanghai.

Pink Siifu becomes the devil on the shoulder of an evangelical preacher in Ludovic Gontrand's spectacular and thought-provoking video for the American rapper's collaboration with his wife SS. Slyver.Stemming from the hypnotic nature of the track, Gontrand's video for Devil's Advocate presents the preacher's meeting to a fervent congregation of true believers. The video blurs the line between belief, manipulation, performance and possession - and the director's references include the tale of Faust. As we suspect the preacher has sold his own soul to the Faustian Pink Siifu. The video also subverts some of the clichés of evangelism, through its cinematic textures. Filmed at a big converted cinema turned evangelist church in North London, it's an impressively large scale production, with a cast of 100 fervent church-goers. And the investment in having this large cast of extras as the congregation really pays off. They provide a sea of faces - many older, experienced faces - who provide the emotional depth of the piece - the element of honesty and goodness - while Siifu and the preacher move through them. With the constantly moving camera and a pulsating edit, this big chaotic show - a hybrid of a concert, a sermon, a scam, and a possession - is disorientating and breathless, with an element of the surreal. And it's fascinating, as Ludovic Gontrand puts a new spin on the ruthless business of religion.

Ludovic Gontrand brings a larger-than-life twist to the classic road trip story - overlaying a nostalgic ode to youth with a deeper message of acceptance and trust - in his video for Seoul-born, Paris-based producer and DJ Didi Han.Shot between Paris and Marseilles, the video for Youth follows a lonely giant hitchhiker - played by 7’4” Serbian actor Dalibor Micic - who is picked up by a group of young friends.Squeezed together in the back seat of a clapped-out car, the group embark on an epic journey across France, stopping off to raid petrol stations, dance at warehouse raves and admire sweeping views. Bonded by their shared experiences and growing camaraderie, the giant’s awkwardness blossoms into quiet confidence.[imgtoken data:1]Intercutting between bleak landscapes and intimately observed human moments, the film - beautifully shot by DoP Jeff Bierman - traces both a physical and emotional journey.Filmed over three days with a small and agile crew, the team travelled from Paris to Marseilles in order to fully immerse themselves in the road trip experience, even throwing a real-life rave party in a Marseilles warehouse. Meanwhile the hypnotic Dalibor Micic anchors the film with a subtly sensitive performance.HAMLET director Ludovic Gontrand says: “With this film, we wanted to celebrate the naivety of youth with all its spontaneity and beauty, as well as portraying an alternative point of view by giving the classic road trip narrative an unexpected twist."Sometimes you make great friends on the road - it’s all about being fearless and accepting people for who they are.”

It's all going on down at the pub, in Ludovic Gontrand's captivating promo for celebrated French saxophonist and singer Thomas De Pourquery.Somewhere in northern France, people descend on a local bar on a foggy evening, and this convivial gathering in a welcoming hostelry proceeds to behave according to its surprising rules - indeed it's own sense of reality. It's basically your favourite ever lock-in, to the power of ten.[imgtoken data:1]With a cast of pub-dwellers representative of modern day France - including De Pourquery - Gontrand's video for The Rhythm Changed focusses upon the individuals that make up this disparate group, and finds an element of the raw personality of each person to highlight the uniqueness of each of us.It is like a combination of experimental theatre and a dance piece, given a dreamlike cinematic sensibility via the approach of Gontrand and DoP Carlos Feher. The result is a real achievement: a gripping and uplifting exploration of the human condition, and the way we interact when left alone in a space. [imgtoken data:2]“It was a very emotional moment when Ludovic and I first met," Thomas de Pourquery has explained. "I told him about my inspirations behind the song, the images I'd imagined to embody all those parts of ourselves that live within us."He had this simple and brilliant idea, which touched me enormously: to find strong, singular faces to embody this inner crowd, and to let them exist in a bar, a timeless place, where he would capture reality by letting the cameras roll and offering real moments of life to be filmed. I was happy to follow him in this venture, which I felt vibrated with the frequencies of my song. I was not disappointed.”"Each member of our cast brought their own vibrant narrative and persona, which we aimed to portray on screen with utmost authenticity," adds director Gontrand. "Our goal was to capture the essence of real-life experiences."

Bastiaan Lochs, Ramy Moharam Fouad and Jonathan Van Hemelrijck join forces to direct this delightful promo for Belgian-Egyptian singer Tamino. featuring Belgian pop superstar Angèle.The video for Sunflower presents a modern take on the 1900's silent film era, and sees Tamino - a lost sailor - in the middle of a surreal theatrical universe, who follows Angèle to the moon to discover the purpose of her mysterious endeavour. With slow camera movements and cinematic lighting, Sunflower combines elements of the old with the new to brilliant effect. “What was difficult at first was imagining how the universes of Tamino and Angèle could be combined," says co-director Bastiaan Lochs. "Their aesthetics are very different and we were worried about how to make them match.[imgtoken data:1]"This world that we created takes notes from Angèle’s imaginative playfulness, but stays true to the gloominess of Tamino’s storytelling. All worries melted away as soon as both of them came on set in their handmade outfits. They blended together so naturally in this crafty set decor that we wondered why we ever expected differently.”Jonathan Van Hemelrijck, one third of the occasional directing trio, points out that although three people co-directing a music video is unconventional. "But looking back, it was the best choice for the project," he adds. "Each of us brought their unique strengths to the table, resulting in a film that carries the soul of us all.”

Julien & Quentin send Stromae and Camila Cabello into the heart of a familiar-looking TV show, in their fun satire for Mon Amour - which poses the important question: is there a reality TV contestant in all of us?The video centres on a reality show where you have to be strategic, charismatic and seductive to reach the final - sound familiar? And what is really satisfying is that both Stromae and Camila have really gone all in in their roles, as part of a larger group of ten contestants. And none of the participants hesitate to use all their assets to reach their goals. Friendship, seduction and betrayal all bubble nicely along each other, and the unreal world of unscripted TV is reflected perfectly in the aesthetic and the contestants' personas. The whole thing feels wonderfully uncanny throughout - and finally tips entirely into the surreal.[imgtoken data:1] "We had a lot of fun working with Stromae and his entourage on this music video," says Julien Martorell - half of directing duo Julien & Quentin. "It's very different from our usual work, and even though it took us out of our comfort zone, we loved concentrating on our cast, directing the actors and leaving room for improvisation.”Quentin Garabedian, the other half of the duo, adds that the video is also meant to test and propose new things. "The idea of reality TV seemed to us to be quite ideal to illustrate the song," he says. "The lightness of certain situations that are mixed with small dramas that take on a huge scale...we watched a lot of reality TV to immerse ourselves in that world. Quite an experience!"

Ludovic Gontrand directs a memorable promo for Brussels-based soul and hip-hop artist Blu Samu's fiery comeback. The promo for Turquoise is set on a beach at night, but the bathers are acting like it’s the middle of the day…snoozing, reading, and chilling out, the whole setup reminiscent of a Martin Parr photograph.[imgtoken data:1] We see Blu Samu as a human torch running through the crowd, with an almost spiritual energy, illuminating the space around her. But it’s as if she’s invisible - not noticed by anyone - she’s then reborn in the healing powers of the ocean.Amazingly, the whole concept was filmed in camera - including the potentially perilous fire special effects - and this called for careful planning and a cold night to shoot on, as well as a skilled stunt team and multiple cameras to capture the footage.

Henry Scholfield reunites with Belgian superstar Stromae for the video for Fils De Joie - the first since a series of great collaborations a few years ago - and it's a jawdropping experience. The concept takes place in an imaginary country, and showcases the state funeral of a national hero - a courtesan - with Stromae saluting the regiments and leading the ceremony.[imgtoken data:1]'Fils de Joie' (which translates as 'Sons of Joy') is the fourth track on Stromae's new album Multitude, and deals with the subject of prostitution through the prism of various characters. For its three verses, Stromae first takes the point of view of a client, then that of a manager of prostitution networks and finally that of a policeman, rather saddened by the situation. In the chorus, the Belgian puts himself in the shoes of a child of a prostitute supporting his mother and pleading for greater recognition and visibility.Scholfield gives this a remarkable interpretation with a grand spectacle, through a huge cast of dancers, choreographed displays of miliartry precision, captured in a variety of ways including aerial shots. It's seamlessly realised with polished visual effects, whilst the unique styling feels inspired and original - after all, creating uniforms for several distinct, imaginary groups is no mean feat.[imgtoken data:2]In fact, the grand scale of the project is almost overwhelming - and also poignant, as this video also skewers the martial and monumental nature of Soviet or North Korean-style ceremonials. Using the themes of the track as a launchpad for something more unexpected, Scholfield infuses the project with his trademark high-concept sensibilities, and Stromae brings his A-game in the dramatic performance sections. Their previous collaborations almost a decade ago, for the likes of Tous Les Memes, demonstrated that they could make wonderfully imaginative mini-musicals. This takes things to another level.[imgtoken data:3]

A track to celebrate the opening of club culture again post-lockdown, created by six different producers on Paris-based dance label Monstart, is the jumping-off point for Ludovic Gontrand to transform a rave into an abstract, cinematic experience.Gontrand's video for Togetherness Harmony takes a group of dancers from a neutral, club-like space into the open air, and with their palpable, visceral energy the film embodies the euphoric, hedonistic awakening of freedom, dance, and music.[imgtoken data:1]Six artists contributed to the track - Blackhouse, Gipsyan, NT89, Ouanounou, Pellusje and Ultraviolet - each producer was inspired by the last ten seconds of the previous section to create their own thirty-second piece, animated by a specific emotion of six identified phases: awakening, awareness, euphoria, trance, ecstasy and release. The film captures the essence of how electronic music makes a person feel, both physically and mentally - with the dancers letting loose as a group and in individual portraits. They achieve a form of utopia, as the act of dancing together becomes a form of salvation, and their pleasure is contagious.[imgtoken data:2]Gontrand also added a touch of anarchy to the opening scene where we see a kiss between a dancer and an anti-riot police officer - a nod to a number of violent incidents towards club goers by the police force.“Our main goal in prep was to offer to the dancers the most playful and flawless experiences on set," explains the director. "The closest we can get to a rave party or a club atmosphere; for example we had a DJ and a real rave soundsystem on set, so they can dance seven hours straight and start to feel a state of trance.”

Jara Moravec has directed a wonderfully heartfelt and uplifting video for the long-awaited return of Belgian-born singer-songwriter Stromae.Co-directed by Stromae’s creative director Luc Van Haver - the brother of the artist, aka Paul Van Haver - the visual reflects the sentiment behind the song Santé, which is an ode to the people who seem invisible but yet are vital to our communities, often immigrants from other cultures into those communities. It's a call for respect to the ones who keep everything going, without ever receiving recognition. So Moravec and Van Haver introduce us to this world of forgotten workers - the fishermen, cleaners, bakers, cooks and office workers - who during the course of the video are all drawn into a basic, part animated dance tutorial that appears on their TVs, which is presented by Stromae. It's shot in a humane documentary-style, and the authenticity of these unsung heroes is unquestionable - but as the dance tutorial starts to make its influence felt upon these initially tentative participants, a sense of euphoria grows. With this wonderful song - influenced, as is so much of Stromae's music by his Congolese roots - the effect is transcendent.[imgtoken data:1]

Camille Dauteuille and Clément Dozier - aka AB/CD/CD - return to music videos with a real bobby dazzler for indie vet Tim Burgess's Empathy For The Devil. And as the songtitle suggests, this provides an intriguing twist on our usual take on The Horned One, in an ambitious narrative featuring Charlie Cattrall as a mischievous but surprisingly mortal Beelzebub. This particular Devil, somehow called up to Earth by a bride on her wedding day, and causing a right royal ruckus at her party, is an attention seeker with some underlying behavioural issues. Burgess provides a watchful eye over him, as we find out about the unhappiness behind his naughtiness, and his true role is revealed. This devil is a whipping boy for human frustration and frailty - and Burgess is able to show him sympathy, and possibly empathy too.Produced and shot in Belgium, photographed by DoP Sander Vandenbroucke (in 1.666 ratio), this freewheeling comic fantasy works really well with the jaunty folk-rock of Empathy Of The Devil. And with their background in conceptual, visual effects-based work, it also serves notice that AB/CD/CD have come of age as exciting storytellers.
