Katy Perry ft Doechii 'I'm His, He's Mine' by TORSO
Rob Ulitski - 18th Sept 2024
Directing team TORSO direct a sensational video for Katy Perry - a mind-boggling clash of stunts and sex - for I'm His, He's Mine - featuring rapper Doechii.
It opens with a skydiving scene, where Katy shares a kiss with her partner, creating a striking contrast between the intensity of the fall and the tenderness of the moment. Between these freefall moments, we see Doechii in a glass elevator, defying gravity.
The video seamlessly transitions into further strking sequences: Katy slides across the bonnet of a moving Corvette, dressed in a metallic bikini - and doing the splits - while Doechii is suspended from a drone, wrapping her legs around her crush.
The directors also play with surreal moments, such as a scene where Katy Perry and her partner kiss in the middle of a busy road, paying no attention to the traffic around them. Alternating between studio and outdoor shots, with lighting and wind effects, the video manages to balance chaos with intimacy, all while maintaining the energy of the song right through to the end.
After a less than auspicious start to the campaign for her new album, Katy Perry silenced her numerous detractors with her show-stealing performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last week. That featured breathtaking high-wire work, and so the arrival of TORSO's video is a perfectly timed companion piece.
It's also the directors' first video since they had Charli XCX crashing through Charles De Gaulle airport for Von Dutch, at the start of her Brat summer. This one is also not afraid of being brazenly OTT - only ramped up several notches higher. Katy is definitely back now.
