Sasha Barbin and Ryan Doubiago's new video for M83 is a spectacular sequel to the acclaimed videos that the French producer released a decade ago.&nbsp;In 2011, M83 released a trilogy of videos for the album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming&nbsp;- directed by Fleur&amp;Manu. These films, produced by Division, told the story of a community of children gifted with supernatural powers who escaped from a school where a covert government force kept them locked up."To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the album, M83 wanted to illustrate a fourth piece, a fourth chapter that would take place in the same universe. But rather than setting it ten&nbsp;years later, we wanted to go back to the origins," explain the directors, Barbin and Doubiago.&nbsp;"That's why this story acts as a prequel to the trilogy - taking place ten years earlier in order to highlight the first moment one of these children uses their supernatural gifts."On the way to the hospital and moments before his birth, the child’s parents are victims of a horrible car accident. The unborn child is forced to use his powers to save them from within the womb. The idea was to show the literal birth of a superhero."The cinematic, stylised aesthetic encapsulates an emotional narrative and high-stakes drama scenes, whilst the use of slow-motion&nbsp;helps elevate the emotional pull of the concept. The visual effects also play a key role in both the narrative and the overall concept, and&nbsp;Mathieu Jussreandot does a brilliant job in this role.&nbsp;

The times when a music video really astonishes are rare nowadays -&nbsp;but this is one of those occasions. Arnaud Bresson's remarkable video for Flatbush Zombies' James Blake-produced Afterlife creates something&nbsp;impossible, but in such a way that it is, for all intents and purposes, the real thing:&nbsp;an X-Ray version of a hardcore hip-hop video.&nbsp;From the first shot, of a gang carrying the coffin of a friend, to the last, everything is seen through the prism of X-Ray photography... or so you will believe. This is a situation of&nbsp;an essentially straightforward idea that lives or dies by dint of the execution - and the execution is completely flawless. So while your mind will tell you that this&nbsp;just cannot be done - X-ray machines are not safe to use on a film set or location - your eye tells you otherwise.[imgtoken data:1]This was the result of a combination of&nbsp;brilliant vision, skill and that luxury rarely afforded music video production - time. The effect of X-ray photography wa achieved through 3D animation and VFX work that took place via Machine Molle in Paris over a period of months - the initial foortage of the band and cast was shot before lockdown began.&nbsp;As Bresson has explained in a press release: “Today, there is no technology that X-ray films a living being without endangering it, so we worked hand in hand with a post-production company to develop a technical device that would allow us to achieve a similar effect. We used multi-camera tracking, recorded the positions and movements of our characters to extract and apply to our 3D compositions. It took four months of work to find the perfect style.”The result is transparent - one of the music videos of the year so far.

Arnaud Bresson's video for Headie One x Fred again.. takes elements that we see repeatedly in grime and other urban videos - in particular the people - and puts them in another, more abstract&nbsp;environment. And it makes their presence all the powerful as a result.&nbsp;&nbsp;Although its&nbsp;for a video called GANG, the video shakes up that usual definition. The people featured here are from all generations, but their connection to Headie One seems palpable. This is about community - which actually extends way beyond his particular London postcode.&nbsp;There's a real spirit coming&nbsp;through in Arnaud Bresson's impressive video - expertly shot by DoP&nbsp;Paul Guilhaume - and it certainly shows a different side to Headie One.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Created for Nowness's&nbsp;Thanks For The Dance series honouring the work of Leonard Cohen, featuring the French actor&nbsp;Isaach De Bankolé.Filmed in Texas, Haycock told Nowness (who presented the project in collaboration with Sony Music Canada and the Leonard Cohen estate):&nbsp;“My initial thoughts of the song was that Leonard was singing about dying but then I realized he had written this poem well before his death. The chair symbolizes a final resting place, but there is also an idea of accepting what is coming and enjoying it.“The song is already pretty heavy and I was worried I couldn’t do it justice. French actor Felix Maritaud plays a man attempting&nbsp;to maintain his self-control in a succession of extraordinary situations, in Nathalie Canguilhem's extravagantly imaginative video for French producer SebastiAn.From a village composed entirely of tiny castles, or churches, populated by hooded monks, and an endless Seuss-like keyboard - played by&nbsp;SebastiAn himself - to a successsion of ever-smaller doorways and a platoon of girl dancers on crucifixes on a beach, Maritaud's epic journey is a series of challenges. Whatever the distraction, temptation, or threat to his physical wellbeing, he is trying to keep an even keel - reflecting the lyrics sung by Bakar on SebastiAn's track Sober.&nbsp;Ultimately Maritaud is surrounded by his challenges and choices - encircled by the monks in a colliseum-like exterior; confronted by numerous doorways within a building.&nbsp;Canguilhem turns&nbsp;these interlinking scenes into a cohesive whole - a surreal dreamscape that feels authentic. In this world, even the more extraordinary settings look defiantly real.[imgtoken data:1]In fact, much of it is real. The village of castles is situated in Turkey, where much of the exteriors for the&nbsp;video were shot. The rest was filmed in Kiev.Like her video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/02/15/travis-scott-x-saint-laurent-cant-say-nathalie-canguilhem/57327" target="_blank">Travis Scott's Can't Say</a> earlier this year, this is a collaboration with Saint Laurent, and&nbsp;the subdued tones of blue and grey that predominate throughout the piece are the unmistakeable colours of YSL's classic Rive Gauche perfume brand. In the video, no more obvious branding is required.&nbsp;&nbsp;

For his fourth collaboration with Sam Fender, Vincent Haycock has crafted a video out of the rich local street casting and locations in Marseille, in the south of France. Portraying couples in their most&nbsp;vulnerable, intimate moments, the visual is a slice of life, a collection of raw universal moments that mirror the themes of the track.&nbsp;Shot on an Arri SR3 16mm camera with a minimal documentary crew, the choice to keep things smaller in scale pays off, with incredibly poignant imagery&nbsp;and a cast who were encouraged to really let go and be&nbsp;present in the moment. This is very evident in the final project, and is a testament to Haycock's skill as a director. &nbsp;
