Navos ft Harlee 'You And I' by Dan French
Rob Ulitski - 8th Sept 2021
Dan French explores the anticipation, nerves and sheer excitement of a new relationship, in his promo for Navos's You And I, featuring Harlee.
Following a guy and girl - played by Lucas Jones and Leelah Voh - who are planning to meet up at an unconventional party location, the visual treads familiar territory in the narrative, but executes it in a fresh and exciting way.
Using bodyrigs, we get right up in on the action, following every smile, worried glance and relieved grin on the character's faces, before the camera dives into an untethered 360 shot of their first kiss.
In keeping with the aesthetic, Navos and Harlee also make a cameo appearance at the party, adding a brief yet perfectly fitting performance element.
DAN FRENCH:
I wanted the whole video to lead up to this incredible kiss. The first kiss.
"This song was all about two people obsessed with each other. I wanted to create a narrative where we follow the story of that first magic moment when you kiss. It was important to experience this from both perspectives and put the focus on them completely. This is where the idea of a body rig really came to life.
"By putting rigs onto both our leads, it held the focus on their experience and meant we experienced the story through them. I wanted the whole video to lead up to this incredible kiss. The first kiss. One that's a little bit messed up on the dancefloor of a club but still feels like magic. This moment needed to stand apart and it's one of the reasons we chose to come off the rigs for it.
"As they kiss the room is suddenly empty and they're alone. After all that's how it feels in the moment on the dancefloor. It was a huge technical challenge and a struggle to fit it all inside of one day due to so many changes in the body rig, but I'm really happy with what we managed to pull off."
