BUG 45 - all the videos
Work by a fantastic line-up of directors, and a great guest director, graced BUG 45, the latest showcase of music video creativity on the big screen, held on Thursday December 4th at the BFI Southbank in London, and hosted by the irrepressible Alex Horne.
The special guest was Henry Scholfield, the director who has a habit of making very creative, beautifully orchestrated videos for big pop stars. BUG gave big screen love to his two superb videos for Belgian superstar Stromae and the spinning room video for Ella Eyre's breakthrough hit If I Go, and Henry reflected on his career thus far in conversation with Alex.
Alex brought some audio-visual tricks of his own - including a brilliant miming sequence, over a recorded version of himself. He also introduced a feature which has since been described as 'toddler gogglebox' - a video of three small children watching some of the videos chosen for the show.
The first video of the night was one that brilliantly bamboozled the toddlers: the latest masterwork by power-pop band cum video performance artists OK Go. Then it was great videos by some of the best directors working in the medium - some returning after long absences: Encyclopedia Pictura, Kahlil Joseph, CANADA and Keith Schofield.
