Christian Padron directs a short music film for Samora Pinderhughes. Masculinity is the the first release from composer Samora Pinderhughes' album Grief, and is part of the on-going collaboration between the director and artist under The Healing Project - a multidisciplinary response to trauma from structural violence."This film explores how different conceptions of manhood show up in body, language, and sound. Vulnerability is the center of this piece." Padron says. The documentary-style aesthetic explores masculinity in different characters and forms, and how the idea of 'manliness' is instilled from a young age. Spanning a range of tender vignettes, the video feels authentic and human, and this is reflected in the casting and location choices. "We wanted to have representations from various generations, from elders to babies, to think about how we're raised, what society teaches us, and how we reveal ourselves over time,” Padron continues. The film for Masculinity follows the short film Process, winner of the Audience Award for Best Experimental Film at BlackStar Film Festival, and Grief, a music and film commission by Carnegie Hall.

Adam Kirschner - aka Noble Sun - is on the run from a mysterious intruder, in Vancouver-based director Devon Mussett's visceral promo for Sleepin'. Through a series of increasingly bizarre, dream-like vignettes, Kirschner drops in and out of four surreal worlds, before ultimately finding himself back in his bed with a woman he adores. The entertaining narrative structure - including moments of cartoonish ultraviolence and gore - makes this a standout visual with plenty to appreciate, from the wild set pieces to Kirschner's multifaceted performance."We threw together a incredible Canadian cast, a group of some of the best Vancouver filmmakers, some incredible local sponsors and a variety of unique Hollywood North locations to create the wild ride that is the Sleepin' music video," says Mussett."We used a mix of old school camera tricks and contemporary visual effects to create a film that makess you want to double back, to fully understand what just happened."

Meji Alabi directs an intense and timely exploration of violence and inequality, in his video for Burna Boy's Monsters You Made, featuring Chris Martin. Having watched a devastating montage of traumatic events, a group of soldiers - led by Burna Boy - are training to revolt against the systems and people in power. The concept encapsulates the themes of the track, and is a timely meditation on an unjust society, where violence is bred from birth and is a matter of life and death for many people.

In the fourth of Matt Walker's series of videos for Jme, the independent rap artist reveals the extent of loathing of the music business, in the action-packed and violent video for Pricks.It's set in a corporate record label, where Jme is poised to sign a contract - until he notices a clause which says he is about to sell his own soul, in perpetuity... So he refuses to sign - and then all hell breaks loose.The ensuing tear-up, and his white-knuckle ride in trying to escape from the building, is a perfect accompaniment to Jme's entertaining diatribe.Whether or not you sympathise with all of his sentiments (or the violence), it climaxes in a resounding message - 'Thought my style didn't fit til I stopped listening to all these pricks.' - just as he is about to face his final stand against a group of seriously miffed record company execs. It's a tremendous vehicle for a seriously talented rapper.
