Denisha Anderson directs a powerful state-of-the-nation vision of inner-city London to accompany the towering collaboration of those veterans of dance and grime, The Bug and Flowdan.The video to Pressure - the second single from The Bug's new album Fire - begins with an intro scene designed by Anderson to reflect the opening lyrics, in which we see distorted images of Boris Johnson and Priti Patel and crowds protesting, before cutting to Flowdan. His powerful performance is delivered against the backdrop of brutalist architecture, creating the feeling of being boxed-in within the harsh concrete setting. Eventually he takes over the screens previously monopolised by politicians and protest footage.Anderson intersects Flowdan's down-the-barrel performance with shots of the him and The Bug on the staircase of an inner London tower block, and of an urban landscape bereft of people - with the exception of two characters running away from camera, as if from an unseen threat.The video was shot across East and South London in a day, with the intense edit that follows perfectly complementing the track. The result, from the director with videos for Oscar Jerome and Wu-Lu to her credit, is something that feels both contemporary and timeless.“The claustrophobic energy was used to give space to those in estates, living upon one another and repeatedly ignored by those in power,” explains Anderson. “In choosing these locations, Flowdan becomes the voice of the people."Hence the reason for him taking over TV screens, because now is the time to listen... Laurie Lynch captures the city's fast-paced repetitive rhythm - and a heavy dose of angst and paranoia - in his video for Kit Grill's Street Runner.Like a title sequence for a Eighties TV show that was never made, Lynch combines black and white live action with blood-red graphics, following a suited runner through London's brutalist landscapes, to go with Grill's minimal retro-electronica. And there's lots of strobing - always a good thing.

Karim Huu Do's video for The Shoe's track Submarine is an icy, unsettling, brilliantly composed piece which ventures into uncanny and disturbing territory.Following an intimate scene between a couple that leads to a secret agreement, the video's strange vibe builds with scenes of increasingly nighmarish nature, with the young woman experiencing some sort of posession as the dazed man looks on, surrounded by featureless faces.Karim Huu Do told DAZED: "I remember watching Altered States when I was a kid, it’s a movie about a scientist that wants to find a way to return to his first soul and to achieve it, he makes different experiments, one of them being the use of hallucinogens."I guess when I listened to the track it made me remember the feeling I had when I saw it. The slow tempo, the nonchalance in the surreal lyrics, everything in this song made me think about how you experience a drug. So I went into exploring the physical and mental state you go through when you’re taking substance. More precisely how the dopamine is released in your brain in the process called 'brain reward' and how drugs interfere with it. "All together it makes the story you see in this film; a couple that experience a drug. While one is losing control of his mind, the other is losing control of her body."
