Noua Unspe 'Missy Elliott' by Mihai Feflea

Promonews - 12th Jan 2026

Mihai Feflea directs what he describes as "a love letter to some of London's architecture and Spike Lee's films" for boundary-pushing Romanian artist Noua Unspe.

For Unspe's propulsive track Missy Elliott - with a drum track very adjacent to Fine Young Cannibals' late 80s hit She Drives Me Crazy - the Portuguese-born, East London-based director shoots the rapper/singer outside celebrated Brutalist buidlings and City skyscrapers in London, and then recreates the mood of early Spike Lee - particularly his debut She's Gotta Have It - in the studio, all shot on Kodak 16mm.

With Unspe exuding natural charm and charisma - while performing in his native Romanian - the result is very engaging. It's more impressive work from Mihai Feflea who has directed other cool videos for Romanian artists in the past few months, including the steamy Lights Out for Syfo Dias.
