Mr Bruce 'You Told Me So' by Tom Oliver
Rob Ulitski - 2nd Mar 2026
The second chapter of Tom Oliver's short film for the new Mr Bruce album sees the idiosyncratic artist dance with his doppelgänger and father in the dead of night, ending with a nod to Michelangelo’s Pietà as morning strikes.
Following the furious repetition in a domestic setting of All Falls Down, the film's first chapter, You Told Me So moves at similarly breakneck speed. The visual is a feverish amalgam of dance, performance and clever match-cuts, exuding an uncanny vibe throughout.
The inspiration for the film stems from personal experience, as Mr (Ian) Bruce explains.
“The idea of dancing with my father has been in my back pocket for over a decade," he reveals. "It wasn’t until I discovered he’d been secretly tap dancing in his basement that I knew it had to happen.
"In some ways, this video is an extended metaphor for the grief we experienced after the death of my twin brother, his son.”
