Jackson Wang 'High Alone' by Rodrigo Inada
Rob Ulitski - 25th Feb 2025
Rodrigo Inada directs a dramatic blockbuster for Hong Kong rapper - and member of South Korean boyband Got7 - Jackson Wang.
The video for High Alone explores the duality present in all of us, manifesting in two versions of Jackson Wang on screen: as he battles his darker self in his apartment, Inada presents a big setpiece with Jackson as a Houdini-style escapologist sunk into a glass box.
The latter has a traumatic and hugely symbolic outcome: despite escaping his shackles, Jackson is trapped underwater in the glass box, to the delight of the audience of onlookers.
Infused with a deep red and blue colour palette and a grimy, textural aesthetic, this is a cinematic vision, a powerul addition to Wang's videography - and arguably a very tough watch for his legion of fans.
