Maria Chiara Argirò 'Closer' by Raoul Paulet
Rob Ulitski - 16th Feb 2024
Raoul Paulet directs an impressive dance-based promo for electronic artist Maria Chiara Argirò, featuring dancer Klaudia Wittmann as she tumbles through the walkways and marshlands of East London on a cold, bright day,.
“A woman relives her journey on this planet in the pursuit of belonging," says Paulet of the meaning behind Wittman's performance, in the video for Closer. "Only through the acceptance of the world around her, she can find our true self. Or, is it the other way round?”
At the start Paulet adds a spark of mystery and drama, with the appearance of a floating red orb, that provides the initial explosive drive behind Wittman's charismatic performance, and the trigger for the great use of locations, captured by DoP Jerome Monnot, enhanced by Paulet's clever use of sound design.
The result is a richly enjoyable visual showcase for the track from Maria Chiara Argirò's forthcoming debut album, also called Closer, which is to be released in April.
