Samm Henshaw 'Jumoké (Live Session)' by Timi Akindele-Ajani
Rob Ulitski - 15th Jan 2024
Timi Akindele-Ajani directs an upbeat live promo for Samm Henshaw's new song Jumoké, inspired by the classic West African pop sound Highlife.
The live video has a simple yet dynamic concept, focusing purely on Samm and his band's performance - it's shot in a single take with a constantly rotating camera. It's a simple yet dynamic device, and the 360 rotating camera and tape recorder motif was largely inspired by a scene from the 1981 John Travolta movie Blow Out.
Using depth and and subtle art direction to engage the viewer, the video remains captivating and intimate throughout, with a rich textural aesthetic and exudes the joyous energy of the track.
