Maverick Sabre 'Into Hope' by OJ Deady
Maverick Sabre battles with profound inner turmoil in OJ Deady's video for Into Hope.
Playing a multitude of characters in a low-key everyman's bar, Sabre embodies the juxtaposition of being on stage and being a member of the audience, representing the inevitability of needing to look inward after moments of self-destruction. Whether in or out of the spotlight, the character's emotions are bubbling just under the surface, threatening to derail him at a moment's notice.
The visuals are an introspective study of the different personalities we each hold within us, which can often be erratic and interchangeable, at odds with our true selves.
DoP Mark Warmington utilises an array of close-ups and offbeat angles to represent the themes of the track, whilst editor Peter Duggan cleverly contrasts moments of drunken confidence and loneliness, compounding the overwhelming hopelessness of the situation.
