Ed Sheeran is at one with the elements,&nbsp;in Mia Barne's touching&nbsp;promo for Boat.&nbsp;We see Sheeran performing in the middle of the sea, battling a tirade of incoming waves as he works to keep his footing.Before long, various objects get caught up in the water, including broken records, teddy bears and stationery.&nbsp;The cinematography is surprisingly intimate and conversational throughout - with Sheeran's eyeline always down the lens and the camera up close and personal, it feels as if he is pouring his heart out to a friend, and it makes for a beautiful visual.&nbsp;It's the perfect track for a stripped back yet perfectly executed promo, and Barnes brings it to life with an emotional yet still playful concept.&nbsp;

Mia Barnes directs a heartfelt promo for Ed Sheeran's Eyes Closed - the first release from forthcoming album Subtract.&nbsp;Hanging out at a bar with only a few strangers for company, the video opens with Ed drinking away his sorrows, attempting to bury an unhappiness lurking within him.&nbsp;Before long, he begins to see a giant, fuzzy blue monster - a representation of the sadness that he carries around with him. And it starts to shadow&nbsp;him everywhere he goes.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]The portrayal of such emotions as a rather loveable furry creature perhaps suggests&nbsp;that when you hold&nbsp;onto negative emotions for so long, they almost become comfortable and familiar, adding a layer of meaning to the poignant visual. But of course it's also a very astute way of portraying a negative emotion within the recognisable Sheeran universe.It's a true feat of visual effects,&nbsp;not only with the main monster design but for&nbsp;several other characters with their own emotional creatures, and Ed's stirring performance is the glue that binds the dreamlike, tender promo together.&nbsp;

Welcome to the world where only futuristic humanoid robots exist, and everyone worships the greatest humanoid robot racing driver:&nbsp;Crashtag.It's the latest blockbuster for Pink Noise directed by Kim Chapiron, and here co-directed by Paris VFX-studio CG supervisor Jehan Bouazza, based at top Paris VFX house Mathematic.Bouazza led Mathematic’s team of skilled artisans and animators throughout the nine-month production, encountering challenges in developing a modern and first of its kind music video world, solidifying a unique character design for Crashtag, and managing a high volume of assets required to create the racetrack arena.[imgtoken data:1]Lead Character Artist Camille Gurruchaga oversaw the creation of Crashtag, crafting the character’s background story and psychological profile to inform design decisions, while concept artists simultaneously developed the look of the environments, including the racetrack and larger arena. Once 'lookdev' was finalized, the team set out to produce the five-minute animated sequence, using Zbrush for modeling, Maya for animation, Substance Painter for textures, Nuke and Flame for compositing, Resolve for color grading, and Arnold for the final render. To bring the anthropomorphic Crashtag character to life, Mathematic motion captured a performance by Ladj Ly, the acclaimed French director of the 2019 film Les Misérables.&nbsp;Ly’s performance imprinted humanlike qualities – including a distinct personality and emotional warmth, when it comes to the crunch. Tanu Muino directs a bold, innovative promo for Lil Nas X that has courted a whole heap of controversy - and not entirely for the reasons it intended.&nbsp;The video for Montero (Call Me By Your Name) is a&nbsp;tour de force&nbsp;of 3D art, larger than life set pieces and a truly mesmerising performance,&nbsp;and is presented with an important message of freedom from the trailblazing artist.With it's huge CGI build and characterisation of Lil Nas in a number of roles, Muino has created an extraordinary fantasy world to showcase the artist's unapologetic attitude, with Paris-based Mathematic doing the heavy-lifting in terms of&nbsp;VFX work.Nas starts on a journey, where he encounters various version of himself. Ultimately he&nbsp;descends from the heavens&nbsp;straight into Satan's lap, where he gives a&nbsp;sultry lapdance, all the while celebrating and embracing who he is - and blocking out the naysayers and haters.The unintended controversy comes with the sequence of Nas's descent on a pole to Satan's lair, and its similarities to elements of FKA Twigs' Cellophane video by Andrew Thomas Huang. After a series of <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/news/2021/03/30/andrew-thomas-huang-cries-foul-over-lil-nas-xs-montero-video/70167" target="_blank">anguished posts on social media by Huang</a>, Lil Nas X has now acknowledged the close similarity of the sequences in the two videos, in&nbsp;<a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CNEAOPCFaHb/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link" target="_blank">an Instagram post</a> on March 30th, in which he describes Cellophane as a "masterpiece."&nbsp;i want to show love to&nbsp;@fkatwigs&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;@andrewthomashuang&nbsp;! the “cellophane” visual is a masterpiece.i want to say thank u to twigs for calling me and informing me about the similarities between the two videos, as i was not aware they were so close. was only excited for the video to come out. i understand how hard you worked to bring this visual to life. you deserve so much more love and praise.

Having collaborated with Headie One and Fred again.. on her latest release, FKA twigs has collaborated&nbsp;with director Emmanuel Adjei on the magisterial video for Don't Judge Me - a metaphorical exploration of&nbsp;the experience of being Black and British today.This is&nbsp;a double whammy of two distinct sequences that have their own riveting quality, and then weave together towards the greater message. Like most things created by twigs and Adjei - directors who are working together for the first time -&nbsp;they gradually create&nbsp;an indelible&nbsp;impression.[imgtoken data:1]On the one hand, there is twigs herself, sitting in a chair&nbsp;a grand room in a grand English house. But can she escape what reveals itself to be a gilded cage. Before she can get through the door of the room, unseen forces drag her back to the chair. When she negotiates the door, she only gets so far before flying back to her first position once again. It's a continual struggle, which increasingly calls upon angular choreography as well as wirework.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;And then in a mysterious counter-scenario to twigs's struggles, we are taken into another scene, the details of strange and shocking&nbsp;sculpture, and the people surrounding it. The artwork is Kara Walker's fountain sculpture Fons Americanus, a&nbsp;satirical take on a classic Victorian mode of art, cast in concrete - which has exhibited at the Tate Modern in London. The cast around the sculpture are eminent Black Britons - listed below - who have shared a particular struggle, shaped by&nbsp;cultural, systemic and structural biases,&nbsp;to be who they have become.[imgtoken data:2]"From someone’s appearance, we are unable to judge whether a person discriminates over colour, sex, religion, or gender," says Emmanuel Adjei, talking about the theme of The Invisible Oppressor, which has informed the video for Don't Judge Me.&nbsp;"The oppressors within the people surrounding us, most often remain invisible until their abuse against others is revealed. This is one of the reasons why, for generations, discrimination is so hard to fight. Who must the victim fight against if it can’t identify the perpetrator?[imgtoken data:3]"In this audio-visual document we get to witness artists FKA Twigs and Headie One, amongst other Black British influentials, fighting against invisible forces of judgement and oppression. Having the enormous Victorian-inspired fountain 'Fons Americanus'&nbsp;by visual artist Kara Walker - depicting the historical, sorrowful story of slavery and colonization - as our setting, and particularly as the spirit of the film, this important monument creates another layer of depth and meaning to an invisible yet shared history."

Vania Heymann and Gal Muggia take the intimate and make it spectacular in their video for Trevor Daniel and Selena Gomez.Starting with the Trevor and Selena's&nbsp;performance of Past Life - brought together from their respective isolation by&nbsp;Instagram Live - Heymann and Muggia then characteristically move it on to a far greater scale, with unbridled imagination - but also using the resources available to them during the lockdown.When the fourth wall of the phone screen is broken, a GGI world is created and that's a pathway to a merging of landscapes - the natural wonders of the world with contours of Selena's face. And then also Trevor's.It's a visionary use of stock footage, somewhat in the vein of Heymann and Muggia's classic video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2016/05/17/coldplay-upup-vania-heymann-and-gal-muggia/41368" target="_blank">Coldplay's Up&amp;Up</a>, and the sweeping aerial shots across marvellous vistas also serve to make it appropriately romantic.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Anton Tammi teams up with Abel Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd, for their chilling fourth collaboration, In Your Eyes.&nbsp;Picking up right where he left off in <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2020/03/09/weeknd-after-hours-anton-tammi/63691">After Hours</a>, we see the artist brandishing a knife just as the elevator doors close, followed by a cacophony of gutwrenching screams.&nbsp;On the run, the girl from the elevator - played by Zaina Miuccia - is helpless as The Weeknd stalks her, embodying the foreboding threat of an '80s slasher villain. It's a blood soaked trip through anachronistic Los Angeles, echoing the same hallucinatory vibes as the previous visuals from the album, with a decidedly more gruesome aesthetic.With a climax that flips the concept on its head - and leaves Abel&nbsp;without his head - this is another masterful work from Tammi, who ends the series on a weird and wonderful high. &nbsp;

Thibault Dumoulin imagines an Apocalypse in Paradise in the video for Fhin's Trauma.&nbsp;Opening with a shot of a monkey playing with an empty plastic bottle on a tropical&nbsp;beach , the themes of destruction and humanity's effect on the natural world are clear from the start.&nbsp;A representation of Adam and Eve, the two lead characters are living their life on a beautiful beach, but treating it with no respect. The girl throws her cigarettes in the sea, the guy is glued to his phone, uninterested in the miracles of his everyday existence. When an atomic bomb explodes in the distance, the couple suddenly realise their time is coming to an end, and their former ignorance melts away as they kiss each other passionately, waiting for the inevitable to happen.&nbsp;It's a simple concept but breathtaking in its execution - the visual effects are impressive, the characters are believable, and the emotion is charged throughout the video, with a tragic and haunting climax that stays in the memory.&nbsp;
