Ama Lou self-directs the&nbsp;promo for Same Old Ways, where contrary to the title of the song, tradition gets a welcome makeover.&nbsp;In the video - made in collaboration with The North Face -&nbsp;we follow the induction of two inner city kids (Ama&nbsp;and her friend) on their first day of boarding school. At the start, the viewer is set up to anticipate the worst for the pupils as they enter a daunting environment. But instead, they are welcomed with open arms, having a great time taking&nbsp;part in some classic old English boarding school activities.&nbsp;Excitable and celebratory,&nbsp;the video - shot by Ama's sister Mahalia John - is full of feelgood vibes, and the breathtaking setting is an excellent location for the camaraderie to ensue.&nbsp;

Douglas Hart and Steve Mackey - the former Pulp bassist-turned director -&nbsp;direct a grungy promo for Hot Chip's return with Down.&nbsp;The video is a lo-fi&nbsp;affair, blending gritty textures, abstract imagery and distorted layers of oversaturated footage.&nbsp;Paying homage to early music video experimentation, the compelling performances are contrasted against unusual, seemingly unrelated vignettes, which seem more inspired by the industrial beat than any lyrical content. Ama Lou self-directs a charismatic performance promo for her track Trust Nobody.&nbsp;In contrast to her previous videos - which were shot in Los Angeles - this one was filmed in London, and features the artist in a white cyc photo studio,&nbsp;filling the space with a confident yet vulnerable energy.&nbsp;Though simple in its presentation, the concept is a perfect vehicle for Lou's performance style, and takes inspiration from portraiture and fashion photography in its minimalist aesthetic.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Tash Tung delivers a brilliantly styled and art directed confection for new girl on the block Josie Man.For her track Baby Pink &amp; Blue, the director&nbsp;gives the singer the most colourful of starts, but makes it far more rich and sophisticated that the title suggests.This fashion-forward fantasy might be the most outright pop thing that Tash Tung has done so far in music video, and it looks like a terrific move.

Raised in London, now resident in Los Angeles, singer-songwriter Ama Lou continues to impress with her directing as well as her musical output with her latest video: the comic tale of a long-married husband and wife, struggling to keep the spark going between them. And they are both played by Ama Lou.&nbsp;&nbsp;The song We tried, We Tried&nbsp;is about the breakdown of a relationship, and the video follows the couple&nbsp;over the course of one busy evening - the action on screen directly emulating the lyrics.&nbsp;The comedy is fairly broad yet Ama's portrayal of the two characters&nbsp;- aided with some excellent prosthetic make-up - make&nbsp;them believable creations: the still-glamourous Wife is much keener to have some fun and excitment than her Husband, and that rings true.&nbsp;This is basically Eddie Murphy territory, and Ama Lou pulls it off.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Transatlantic soul star Ama Lou self-directs this easygoing performance video, a homesick tribute to North London shot in Los Angeles.The video comes almost a year after her debut EP, DDD, and an <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2018/07/09/ama-lou-ddd-ama-lou/53943">accompanying short film</a> shot by her sister, DoP Mahalia John. This was Lou’s California crime story, a bold triptych starring the singer as a new recruit in a desert crime ring.NORTHSIDE, in contrast, is a decidedly stripped-back affair, in which Lou communicates the relative simplicity of life in her native London: “The Northside is with me even in LA.” The video stars a host of friends and collaborators, including Taco from Odd Future and A$AP Nast.There is also a cameo appearance from a crumpled Sainsbury's carrier bag - an affectionate reference that will undoubtably mystify American viewers.

Jazz and Chinese martial arts turn out to be natural bedfellows in this supercool video for Kamaal Williams - aka South London jazzer Henry Wu -&nbsp;by Greg Barnes.New Heights (Visions of Aisha Malik), which was released on 12-inch in December, is a prime cut from the current British jazz explosion and a soundtrack to a movie that has yet to be made, where fighters fly through the air feet first, and know how to handle a pair of deadly nunchakas. So Barnes has made that film -&nbsp;shot on 35mm - and it&#39;s terrific.&ldquo;2019 is all about making movies&hellip; Bruce Lee was a huge inspiration growing up because he was the first Chinese guy on the big screen,&rdquo; states Henry Wu aka Kamaal Williams, currently on tour in the USA. &ldquo;I feel like music and martial arts have the same flow of energy and are respective art forms. So why not bring Wu Funk and Kung Fu together?&rdquo;Greg Barnes adds: &ldquo;Kamaal doesn&rsquo;t make music, he makes soundtracks, and it&rsquo;s inspiring to work with him in such a shared vision - especially if it means shooting some Kung Fu on 35mm film.&rdquo;&nbsp;

Rising UK R&amp;B singer-songwriter Ama Lou directs her own video covering all three parts of her EP &#39;DDD&#39;.Shot in LA and the surrounding desert, this is an impressionistic story of a freewheeling younger in a crime ring (played by Ama), and her adventures over the course of a single day, when she&#39;s put in charge of an important, very tiny bag.Making this nicely off-the-wall and engaging triptych was a family affair, being shot by Ama&#39;s sister, the DoP Mahalia John. And her mother, Kate John, came on board as hair and makeup artist.
