A motivational speaker struggles to be heard, so makes a radical move, in Emilio Guerrero Alexander's charming promo for Little Jesus. The video for Presente tells the story of Antolín Pastor Nava, who is disheartened after his uplifting messages seem to fall on deaf ears. Inspired by his slide projector, he decides to remedy this by becoming a metallic man, whose only quality will be to project - not feel - allowing him to find a more blissful way of approaching the world.Shot entirely on location in Mexico City on Kodak C500 16mm film, the use of long lenses and playful camera movement gives this a nostalgic 90's feel, which suits the eccentric concept perfectly. "Antolín Pastor Nava, our hero, is portrayed by Manuel Bueno Botello, who was first introduced as a character in Little Jesus’ break-through music video ‘Norte’ 8 years ago," explains Emilio Guerrero Alexander. "His metallic counterpart from the audience is played by Dylan Doehner Pecanins, another character of the Little Jesus universe who played the main role in their hit single’s video ‘La Magia’ 6 years ago."Bringing these two characters together almost a decade after is not only a wink to their past and for the band’s fandom but also as a symbol of their evolution."

Jacob Erland directs a heartwarming promo for Beabadoobee.Shot across four day with Bea's friends and family in the Philippines, the video is an intimate, fly-on-the-wall montage of touching moments, shot on film to create a warm and nostalgic aesthetic. Connected by Bea's carefree performance, the docu-style video is a contrast to some of the more abstract, high-concept videos we've seen before, and it's great to see another side to the artist.

Gia Coppola directs a stunning portrait of emotional unrest, for Gracie Abrams' latest release. The video for Where Do We Go Now? cycles between stark black and white and softly desaturated imagery, with gentle pacing that allow Abrams' performance to unfold in an organic way. The vignettes are abstract yet interconnected, anchored by a dreamlike atmosphere that showcases the themes of vulnerability and regret. Textural and cinematic, it's a thrilling collaboration that encompasses the heartfelt track.

Andy Morgan directs an emotionally affecting promo for Billie Flynn's Forever Goodbye. The track explores love, loss and not being able to see someone again, and Morgan captures this emotion through a strong conceptual device. Presenting eleven takes of the same movements - Flynn walking, sitting on a bench and being touched on the shoulder by an old man's hand - the video has a repetitive, cyclical feel, yet the degradation in the aesthetic and the slightly off-beat moments build to a heartbreaking climax. Clever in its simplicity and execution, the video is further elevated by the stunning natural landscapes of the New Forest. I set the video in the ‘60s, inspired by Hitchcock's screentests for Tippi Hedren."Forever Goodbye is a beautiful song, honest and affecting, with extremely personal lyrics, and in transcribing the song’s intimate story visually, I felt a simple and more abstract idea was the best approach," says Morgan. "I wanted the whole video to be like watching the rushes for the multiple takes of a single scene in a movie."I set the video in the ‘60s after being inspired by Hitchcock's screentests for Tippi Hedren. It also made sense to make this a period piece as viewing processed dailies is not really something that happens anymore."Each shot has an identical action, following the song chronologically. I timed eleven takes, each with a slightly different consideration for things such as when Billie should sit and when the meeting takes place which guides the cut. I chose to have each take become increasingly more grainy and degraded, representing the unfortunate fading of memories over time."That is until the final take, when no meeting takes place. Here I wanted to show Billie’s strength as she walks away from this moment, ready to face her future."

Daniel Brereton directs a cheerful promo for Villagers' new track The First Day. Embodying the refrain of the track, "The first day of the rest of your life", Brereton presents a handful of colourful characters, who are shown rediscovering the world around them. Especially relevant due to the fact it was filmed between lockdowns last year, the concept visualises a newfound sense of respect for the everyday, and focuses on a young girl who floats around a residential estate, before landing to experience joy in a multitude of different ways. Shot on film, the project has a uniquely nostalgic and universal vibe, which is enhanced by bold colour palettes and sharp styling, and wonderful performances across the board.
