Jasmine Jethwa 'Girl Who Cried Wolf' by Ned Botwood
Rob Ulitski - 5th Aug 2026
Ned Botwood reunites with singer-songwriter Jasmine Jethwa in a visual that draws on draws on fables, tarot and superstition and references the work of iconic directors.
In the video for Girl Who Cried Wolf, Jasmine faces a rapid-fire spreads of trials and rituals. She is drawn to make the same mistakes over and over. Navigating a forest blindfolded. Climbing a hill that keeps getting steeper. Struggling against unrelenting weather. And evading the titular ‘wolf’. With just enough time for a ciggy break when it all gets a bit much.
Shot in stark black and white, Botwood and DP Bethany Fitter embraced a semi-improvised approach - inspired by Derek Jarman's Super8 films - employing available light, garden hoses and tilting the camera to create the impression that the world is tilting on its axis.
With an inky, textural grade by Ruth Wardell, and a focus on craft, it's a spectacular visual imbued with experimental flair, referencing Béla Tarr, Andrei Tarkovsky and a little book of old portraits from rural Russia. This three man crew have succeeded in making a lovely video - and making the English West Country look like a dustbowl on the Eurasian steppes.
The video brings to a close the visual world Jasmine and Ned have been building together: a series of bruised romances in visceral rural settings. Crawling through a bleak mudscape, launching repeatedly into open sky, treading water in the dark Atlantic, and now battling the elements in open spaces.
