The Irrepressibles 'Destination' by Jack Willoughby
Rob Ulitski - 27th Sept 2024
Jack Willoughby directs a memorable video for The Irrepressibles, featuring a melancholic muscle-bound monster who finds love in a surprising place.
Willoughby's promo for Destination has a striking premise: his 'monster', played by Nicholas Tredrea, in taut, latex-bound skin - a practical FX wonder - is stuck in a hell of domesticity, with a pet goldfish as his only friend. To console the loneliness of the pet fish, he ventures outside his domestic refuge, to find the fish a partner in the local pet shop.
And things take an uplifting turn among the tanks of tropical fish in the shop - where the shy latex-muscle man attracts the attention of the shop assistant, leading to an exquisite and tender dance sequence between the two.
Willoughby's talent shines as much in the intimate, quiet moments as it does the outlandish dance scenes, and it's overall a really intriguing, magical video.
