Will Pope directs a touching film about the break-up of a love affair for singer-songwriter Montrell.

Featuring Marek Oravec and Victoria Valcheva - who also starred in the Pope-directed video for Montrell's Aqua - the story flashes back and forth through the affair, from beginning to end to in-between, with poignant results.

Pope says he was struck by the conflict in the lyrics of Simpler In The Dark. "From the first line alone, it's clear that this is about a turbulent relationship," he says, adding that the structure of the video derived from looking for new ways to show the highs and lows in a relationship. 

"When you break up with someone, you end up playing moments back in your mind over the days and weeks afterwards. They just jump out at you seemingly out of nowhere, as your mind tries to make sense of the trauma. So it seemed a non-linear narrative would be the best way to present this story.

"The resulting film is a bittersweet montage of those critical moments, spanning the moment the couple first meet and the events that lead to their breakup. All brought to life by our wonderful actors Victoria Valcheva and Marek Oravec, and tastefully lensed by Francis Boyter."
