Will Pope directs a touching film about the break-up of a love affair for singer-songwriter Montrell.Featuring Marek Oravec and Victoria Valcheva&nbsp;- who also starred in the Pope-directed video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2020/07/16/montrell-aqua-boyter-pope/65682" target="_blank">Montrell's Aqua</a>&nbsp;-&nbsp;the story flashes back and forth through the affair, from beginning to end to in-between, with poignant results.Pope says he was struck by the conflict in the lyrics of Simpler In The Dark. "From the first line alone, it's clear that this is about a turbulent relationship," he says, adding that the structure of the video derived from looking for new ways to show the highs and lows in a relationship.&nbsp;"When you break up with someone, you end up playing moments back in your mind over the days and weeks afterwards. They just jump out at you seemingly out of nowhere, as your mind tries to make sense of the trauma. So it seemed a non-linear narrative would be the best way to present this story."The resulting film is a bittersweet montage of those critical moments, spanning the moment the couple first meet and the events that lead to their breakup. All brought to life by our wonderful actors Victoria Valcheva and Marek Oravec, and tastefully lensed by Francis Boyter."

Montrell - Simpler in the Dark

William Pope directs a charming, offbeat&nbsp;comedy for Dusted, the new project by Canadian musician Brian Borcherdt, about a dysfunctional English middle class family.&nbsp;The video for Baseball features the escalating tit-for-tat rivalry between a father (played by Michael Fenton Stevens) and his children, (Daisy Waterstone and Noah Carr-Kingsnorth), who take increasingly devious&nbsp;methods&nbsp;to one-up each other - all triggered by the father's selfish preoccupation with his model soldiers.Inspired by classic films like&nbsp;Harold &amp; Maude, Pierrot Le Fou and The Royal Tenenbaums, the visual is split into several chapters, allowing the narrative to follow a traditional film structure whilst still remaining playful and exploratory.&nbsp;DoP&nbsp;Simon Van Parijs leans into the indie vibe by shooting on film, allowing a warm, filmic palette to encapsulate the concept - and Pope's direction of the story and exceptional cast is pitch-perfect.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

A woman seeks out love and a new beginning,&nbsp;in directing/DoP duo Boyter &amp; Pope's&nbsp;stylish video for Montrell's Aqua.&nbsp;Opening with a short conversation on a beach, the woman, played by Victoria Valcheva,&nbsp;explains to her love interest that if you open your eyes underwater, you see the one you love. When she realises that this isn't the case in her relationship, she gets her own back and finds a new man to open her eyes - and heart - to.&nbsp;Beautifully shot by DoP&nbsp;Francis Boyter, the vintage art direction and hazy colour palette softens what is actually quite a dark narrative.&nbsp;Anchored by&nbsp;performances from Valcheva and Montrell frontman Jonny Taylor which are both humourous&nbsp;and heartbreaking in equal measure, Pope presents a dangerous love triangle wrapped in a bittersweet package.&nbsp;
