Lizzy McAlpine 'Doomsday' by Gus Black
Promonews - 4th Nov 2021
Singer-songwriter Lizzy McAlpine collaborates with director Gus Black to dramatise the ending of a high school romance.
McAlpine is the girl at the wrong end of a break-up and suffering in a virtual zombie state while her creepy ex-boyfriend thrives, in Black's video for Doomsday - a song about being in a relationship so toxic you know it's doomed.
Black creates well-composed, almost dreamlike sequences, heavy in funeral metaphors, and references of Halloween and the Day of the Dead. Eventually Lizzy dons a skeleton mask, and then removes it to reveal her skeleton-painted face.
