Emmit Fenn 'Far From Here' by Samy Mosher
Rob Ulitski - 5th May 2021
Samy Mosher directs an apocalyptic vision of a near-future Earth, in the first of two videos for Californian singer-songwriter Emmit Fenn.
The video for Far From Here explores a world ravished by pandemics, climate change and utter despair - a world not too far removed from our current reality - where a Father recreates an AI version of his dead Daughter.
As the AI girl wakes up, she forms attachments and memories to the keepsakes and items around her, which intertwine with footage of the father and real girl in the past, as she matches the movements of a dance already written in time.
The cinematic aesthetic and glossy, high-concept footage round off a true feat of filmmaking, with an emotional core and riveting conclusion.
SAMY MOSHER:
Our film is a story that puts love to the ultimate test... in which hope arises from utter despair.
"Far From Here was shot pre-lockdown and was inspired by the imagery coming out of the Australian wildfires. It’s the near future. Post-apocalypse. The world as we know it has burned as a result of environmental catastrophe. Humankind has continued its damage on the earth’s life support systems and we’re left with a barren wasteland.
"Within this setting, our film is a story that puts love to the ultimate test, a story in which hope arises from utter despair. No nature, no culture, only Love. Ours is a tale about the very essence of what it means to be human.
"It's a gripping portrayal of the tender and fierce bond between father and daughter and highlights our capacity for love and compassion that provides us with meaning and purpose for living. Far from here, a flame imperishable."
