Andrew Thomas Huang directs a striking promo for Brooklyn-based singer and DJ Yaeji, in collaboration with Microsoft. Filmed in Korea, the promo for Pondeggi is inspired by traditional hand games and beondegi, the Korean street food made from silkworm pupae. The video follows Yaeji as she transforms into a silkworm, engaging in a dreamlike journey to preserve the cycle of metamorphosis, while facing off against a 'techno-witch' played by the legendary Uhm Jung-hwa.Huang makes distinctive use of AI to realise a vision which in some respects shares the sense of the incredible that was a characteristic of his use of VFX when he first broke through as a visual artist. And this was created in partnership with Yaeji and Microsoft as part of the Artifacts: New Experiments in Art & AI initiative - one of three commissioned projects. This groundbreaking project explores cultural memory and transformation through AI-driven innovation, showcasing how AI can expand creative possibilities while preserving human artistry. Huang and Yaeji integrated AI tools—including Microsoft Copilot and open-source AI technologies—to enhance the storytelling, introducing unexpected and surreal visual elements. “The benefits I found from the technology were all in the form of happy accidents—results that were dreamlike that I didn't even know were possible,” says Yaeji.Andrew Thomas Huang adds: “Microsoft’s tools were great conduits for preserving the integrity of the original performance while translating it into this fantasy world, taking inspiration from nature and silkworms.”The result is a hallucinatory visual making great use of the technology and resources at the creative team's disposal. Academy Award nominated Irish film director and writer Ruairi Robinson directs an unsettling AI-generated promo for composer Steve Moore. Generating the visuals using Google Veo 2, the video for The Blue Stone meditates on the state of the world, bringing to life an anachronistic vision of war through the ages. Boasting a step-up in AI video generation techniques, Robinson utilises the uncanny, nightmarish quality of generative AI to great effect, with grimly powerful results. "I had an uneasy feeling of what was wrong with the world," he explains. "I wanted to make a video that would be so expensive to produce traditionally, that no one in their right mind would ever in a million years give me the absurd amount of money it would take to make."So I first decided to make an image of a dancing skeletal jester and the rest of the idea sprang from there: a recreation of the medieval Danse Macabre that spans many wars and atrocities throughout history."A place where the guilty are shown what they did then forced to dance and watch the dead they have wronged - dance and dance and dance until they can’t take it any more."

Genre-defying Londoners Visions Of Hell have teamed up with AI visionaries Blatant Space to create a surreal, grotesque and ultimately touching piece that looks at modern alienation through an ambiguously vintage lens.Evoking a dark, abstract aesthetic, the video for Unjust Memes brings a textural, anachronistic vision to the fore. Haunting, garish characters warp and clash in hypnotic landscapes, like a parallel-world version of kids TV. Just much more surreal. The wild and wonderful concept helps to avoid the many pitfalls common with generative AI - inconsistent textures, uncanny faces and so on - and also fits the hallucinatory track thematically. The piece epitomises the sort of fears and warnings found in much 20th century science fiction, that in the face of a relentless pursuit of technological advancement, we should not risk losing our humanity.
