Margo Price 'Hey Child' by Kimberly Stuckwisch
Rob Ulitski - 2nd Feb 2021
Kimberly Stuckwisch navigates a story of cyclical addiction and depression, in the powerful video for Margo Price's Hey Child.
Exploring the scars we carry around from the relentless push and pull of life, and our daily struggle to regain control, the universal themes are stunningly visualised through a heartwrenching performance from Price, and an abstract narrative that traverses drugs, car crashes and jailtime - but ends with a message of hope and optimism.
DoP Justin Hamilton uses plenty of visual trickery to breathe extra life into the setups, through simultaneous movement between the character and the artist. It's by no means the first time we've seen the camera moves, but a perfect example of how and when to use them, with a unique, contemporary twist.
And the final frame is so important its worth featuring here. Great video.
