Kojaque 'Coming Up' by Henry Dean

Rob Ulitski - 10th Dec 2020

Kojaque takes a wide-eyed journey through a pulsating neon nightmare in Henry Dean's hypnotic promo for Coming Up.

Anchored by an outstanding performance from the artist, the cinematic video captures the angst and urgency of the titular experience and throws it right back in your face - it’s a visual feast that intrigues at every turn.

Opening with an injured Kojaque bleeding out onto the backseat of a car, the film is a manic recollection of a drug-fuelled trip, and full of unexpected twists and turns.

HENRY DEAN:

Eventually we landed on this wide-eyed ride through a pulsating neon hell.

"As soon as this brief landed in my inbox, I knew it would be one for me. After delving into Kojaque’s music and getting a glimpse of the visual world he’s created for himself so far, it was clear this would be a chance to collaborate with an artist who respects the craft and embraces outside-the-box-ideas.

"Some lofty concepts were discussed - including a one-shot video that involved catching a drone in a car and throwing it off a roof. But eventually we landed on this wide-eyed ride through a pulsating neon hell. Keeping our carousel of cinematic references at the forefront, we made a video that hopes to capture all the urgency, angst and relentlessness of Coming Up."

"Henry's done an incredible job creating a cinematic pick 'n mix for the eyes. But why should we be the ones to comment, when the people of YouTube have done such a stellar job for us...
From YT user A*********y: 'How do I get this to auto repeat on my eyeballs'
And, from M********n: 'Absolutely violently ill.'

...Couldn't have said it better ourselves."
