Kieran Lancini 'I Need You' by Andrew Paul Montague
Rob Ulitski - 9th Nov 2020
Andrew Paul Montague directs a heartfelt black and white promo for country artist Kieran Lancini's I Need You.
Focused on isolation and yearning, the video depicts two mannequins who come to life but find themselves separated, and long to be reunited.
The choreography interprets these emotions, bringing the concept to life with a raw energy, elevated by DoP Zeta Spyraki's vintage, gritty cinematography.
ANDREW PAUL MONTAGUE:
I thought of a way to really make the loneliness of two people stand out.
"When I first heard the track, it immediately struck me as regretful ballad - a song of two people separated and missing each other. When the artist said that he wanted it to be a dance piece, I thought of a way to really make the loneliness of two people stand out.
"I included a fantasy element, which is very much my style, of two mannequins who come to life but who are now in different warehouses and dream about being reunited again.
"The use of black and white was inspired by films like Cold War and The Tango Lesson to give the video a classic look, to feel more romantic. I worked with DoP Zeta Spyraki again on this video, and am extremely happy with what we achieved."
