Oh Wonder 'High On Humans' by GROW UP SAD
Luke Bather - 31st July 2017
GROW UP SAD - who has just signed to Burning Reel – directs a slick, clean bonding exercise for Oh Wonder.
Somewhere between speed dating and a team building activity day, High On Humans sees Oh Wonder's Josephine and Anthony sitting face-to-face with strangers in a white room before everybody pairs off to, err, bond. From jigsaws to karaoke, to all manner of food-based fun, the promo takes a surreal look at the different ways in which people could, perhaps, spend time with one another.
It's the first video since director known as GROW UP SAD - who declares that he's inspired by "a love for Christina Aguilera choreography (circa '00), the romanticism of 80's music and mexican food – joined Burning Reel for music videos and commercials. Like the other directors at Burning Reel, he's represented by Marisa Garner at MGA.
GROW UP SAD:
"In a culture obsessed with TV dating shows and hook up apps perpetuating the argument that TV and technology is making us numb, we wanted to imagine a future where the idea that human connection had fallen by the wayside and dating had become nothing more than a mechanical part of existence - a dystopian end point to Tinder?
"Working with the idea of fantasy in an automated world of digital bonds and unlimited access to information, we were able to place OH WONDER in the middle, to project their colourful and infectious brand of ultralife, creating a catalyst for the hopeless souls to fantasise. With their minds full of images of pop culture, memes and Busby Berkeley musicals we watch them piecing together ideas of romance, friendship and connection as they get high on humans."
