Freddie Leyden continues his collaboration with Natasha Khan - aka Bat For Lashes - on videos for her new album The Dream Of Delphi, with an atmospheric video evoking the off-kilter aesthetic of David Lynch. Khan's performance of At Your Feet takes place in a set-up that echoes the Lynchian atmosphere of the 'Red Room' in Twin Peaks - all the more enigmatic has Khan acts a silent hand choreography for the first half of the song before the vocals start at the halfway point. A hint of smoke or mist passing in front of her suggests what is eventually revealed, that is taking place in a forest at night. And it feels like an abstract snapshot of a story that will unfold further, promising more to come in this visual world. But this in itself makes for an utterly absorbing watch. "Natasha described At Your Feet as being about 'the hallucinatory state of being sleep deprived in the night, breastfeeding and rocking the baby'," explains Leyden. "She and the creative director Alexandra Green had developed wonderful choreography for the live show, which I saw in a few videos. It was beautiful, simple, and moving. I wanted to use what had developed organically for this video."The goal became to establish an elevated and surreal setting for this on film. Placing the tiny lone stage deep in the forest seemed like the perfect solution. It felt like we were painting a picture in the woods. Working with cinematographer David Bird, gaffer James Duffy, production designer Richard Nic Evans, and stylist Lucie James, I'm super pleased with the Lynchian composition we were able to achieve."

Kassandra Powell and Joe Wood collaborate to direct an alluring gothic fantasy for the debut single by Raven Numan - daughter of synth-pop legend Gary Numan. The midnight blue and silver-hued video for My Reflection is set in a dark netherworld - art directed by Alan Scott - adorned with candelabra and cracked mirrors. Anchored by a charismatic performance from Raven, it's a suitably enigmatic visual with plenty of visual appeal for the plaintive goth-pop track.

Flamboyant Norwegian pop sensation Metteson launches his debut album - out today, February 16th - with a theatrical performance video for title track Look To A Star that's co-directed by Metteson himself and Sondre Røe. The pair worked with a wide range of experienced and groundbreaking talent to bring this to the screen, and make a visual that spotlights this intriguing new artist's passionate and undaunted showmanship."With the help of Sondre, we gathered the best, up-and-coming people in Norway and created something really special for a very low budget with a group effort," says Matteson. "Coming from theatre, using costumes from Nordic performance- and theatre creators, working with the best up-and-coming movie and storytelling folks that Norway has fostered the past years, the best in the music biz like Matias Tellez (Girl in Red, Maisie Peters) and Vetle Junker (Aurora, Verdensrommet) to make this ultimate Metteson collaboration/bridge building, extravagant fantasy. All while still being very naked and performative, as Metteson should be."I love mixing high and low, art with thrift founds, splashes of colour within a neutral palette. I find so much joy in taking costumes and textile art from museums and theatre stages into my pop music world, building bridges and creating community."The song and video itself is also very much about community. The title track and lead single of the album Look To A Star starts off in a dark place with a lonely synth arpeggio. This signature sound echoes the lyrics 'And we try to lend a hand, to help you. Guide our tears away so you can have the space'. A group of friends, perhaps a family, seeing a loved one drift away into darkness, trying to lure them out, but uncertain how to do it. You look to a star to find hope, or to wish for something, send a prayer - to see the bigger picture."Life can be overwhelming, life happens - and suddenly you discover your friends have moved on, or perhaps you were too concerned with yourself to see your loved ones struggle. The song and the video ends in a bittersweet, ecstatic refrain. Where in the video, the three men/lovers/friends finds each others hands and dance in unison - The lyrics tell a nuanced story. "Away, guide our tears away. We look away" alluding to the superficial nature of friendships and togetherness. How we cope with our darkness, suppress our own and others fears and tears be able to coexist with each other - for better and for worse."Erik Treimann has worked with giants such as Röyksopp, Susanne Sundfør and Karpe on music videos and gained a lot of attention with his work on the Karpe documentary VEGG VEGG VEGG (2022). Sondre Røe is the spider making the web of Norwegian pop, fashion and art scene, making brilliant collaborations happen. Marius Aaserud is one of our most exciting film photographers, working with a lot of Norway's rising stars - as well as working on the last Metteson video Put It To Sleep."

Maxi McLachlan directs an emotional montage of loving moments in their new promo for Manchester rave-pop outfit Porij, featuring lead singer Egg Moore. The video for My Only Love contains a mixture of DV footage, photography and subtle effects, with charming and clever transitions between the different formats. The result is a video that is both fast-moving and heartwarming, riffing on how images capture moments and fuel memories and emotions.It's a lovely video for a lovely track, packed full of dreamlike energy - and McLachlan has created created a real 'how did they do that?' aspect with the transitions, as a result of their smart planning ahead of the shoot."Once I stopped my emotional head-bobbing to this absolute corker of a beat, I started really listening to Egg’s lyrics and discovered this is a love song that focuses on the evanescent nature of our emotions," McLachlan explains. "Love is potent and all-consuming but often exists in sparks, moments between us that are special but inherently fleeting."This sounds like a real downer but I think that’s what makes it magic. I became really interested in how photos evoke this, we take them to literally attempt to capture a moment so we can look at it again, even hold it. I came up with the idea that I wanted to show Egg travelling between snapshots of love between real couples, friends and lovers, jumping in and out of photos."We had a pretty small budget, so Samuel (my DP) and I spent several days running around London with a DV camera filming lovely friends that volunteered to be in the video. We didn’t have any specific plan, we just wanted to film real moments in a documentary style. Then we had to rapidly select some of our favourite frames and send them off to the printers - who hated me after I sent them over 300 frames to be printed ASAP - ahead of our studio shoot the following Monday."I didn’t want the video to be cynical at all. There’s plenty of work exploring our photo-taking obsession, especially in the age of smartphones. I wanted this to just celebrate the joys our modern access to cameras can bring us. My hope is that it gives anyone that watches it a nostalgic, fuzzy feeling and makes them remember some special people. Lord knows there were plenty of them involved in the making of this!"
