A young woman pours the ashes of&nbsp;her beloved late mother into her running shoes and leaves her suburban home - wielding a pole vaulter's pole - in a race against time...Hard Drive Gold, the latest release ahead of alt-J's fourth album The Dream (out on Feb 11th)&nbsp;has a video that follows in the tradition of the band's consistently excellent track record in visuals - particularly those that put a different spin on dramatic suspense. In this case, it comes from a new directing duo, consisting of&nbsp;an alt-J bandmember and his partner: Newman-Wallace are the band's singer and guitarist&nbsp;Joe Newman, and&nbsp;choreographer Darcy Wallace.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We follow the young woman - played by Ellie McCartney - as she drags the pole from her garage, and then pounds through nearly empty suburban streets with it, as if she is on the longest-ever pole vaulter's run-up. This striking image is made even more mysterious by the&nbsp;context - the imminence of a nuclear attack and, as a result, the mostly panic-stricken behaviour of her neighbours.[imgtoken data:1]Finally she reaches her destination - but can she complete her leap before the missiles strike?Newman-Wallace's highly cinematic directing debut was shot by Krzysztof Trojnar, and executive produced by Andrew Law, longtime commissioner of alt-J's videos, now head of music and special projects at&nbsp;Biscuit Filmworks."It was a great privilege to work with Joe and Darcy on their debut piece of filmmaking,which I think is a brilliant music video that stands tall next to the rest of the band's enviable canon of work," says Law. Max Siedentopf&#39;s completely out-there, live-action-cartoon approach gets full rein to express itself in this enjoyably bonkers video for US electro-DJ Gommi.&nbsp;&nbsp;It&#39;s a&nbsp;stop-motion piece where a middle aged, clock-watching salaryman - played by Gommi himself&nbsp;- utterly loses his grip on reality, as he waits for his tedious&nbsp;9-5 day to end, imagining all sorts of weird stuff in the process. It&#39;s a full-on psychotic episode, to match the lyrics of Gommi&#39;s banging tune Psychosis.Maybe its a bit of a Marmitey approach, but&nbsp;Siedentopf command of a wonderfully nutty visual language is a joy to these jaundiced eyes. And, frankly, thank the lord for a new dance producer with a properly daft sense of humour.

Gommi 'Psychosis' by Max Siedentopf

Dear Mr Quistgaard&rsquo;s new music video for XL boss Richard Russell&#39;s project Everything Is Recorded features vocalist&nbsp;Obongjayar being well and truly duffed up by female members of the British Olympic Judo team - but he still manages to continue to lipsync the track.It&#39;s part of a broader Japanese theme in Dear Mr Quistgaard&#39;s video for She Said - that was shot by DoP Tom&nbsp;Townend, making a fairly rare return to music videos. Russell and fellow featured artist Kamasi Washington also cameo in the video, but the star of show is definitely Obongjayar (aka Steven Omoh) and the judo women.&nbsp;&quot;Obongjayar is just such a positive force,&quot; Russell has said.&nbsp;&quot;At the point we recorded the song he had no studio experience but he had great energy and instincts, the song was written and recorded spontaneously, then and there. Making the video was a blast, Steven (Obongjayar) got beaten up by some badass female martial artists, and I got to use my bonsai skills.&rdquo;

Max Weiland builds a cold dystopian world around The Horrors, who reluctantly sign up to some dubious experimentation in a forbidding research complex,&nbsp;run by a Mrs&nbsp;Big you don&#39;t want to mess with.Something bad is going to happen - but not what you expect to happen. Perhaps in keeping with Faris and co.&#39;s&nbsp;new direction with the decidedly catchy Something To Remember By, this turns out to be less horrible, and more satirical. And saucy.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Preparation for Dawn Shadforth&#39;s video for Fat White Family side project The Moonlandingz, featuring Rebecca Taylor from Slow Club, apparently&nbsp;involved lead singer Johnny Rocket (aka FWF&#39;s Lias Saoudi)&nbsp;staying up for five days before the shoot. Then he attached fried eggs to his nipples with clingfilm.His co-star Rebecca is not dressed quite as imaginatively, but looks like she&#39;s been up for a few days herself. She and Lias project a kind of uneasy chemistry that bring to mind Uma Thurman and John Travolta dancing to Chuck Berry in Pulp Fiction. If they had been&nbsp;in&nbsp;a Chinese restaurant cum karaoke bar in Dalston in the middle of a bender, that is.&nbsp;&nbsp;It was shot on film by esteemed DoP Robbie Ryan, who&#39;s recent feature work includes American Honey and I, Daniel Blake. But you just don&#39;t get to do this sort of thing working with&nbsp;Ken Loach.

Wonderful.

In keeping with the reputation of this hugely influential band,&nbsp;Olivier Groulx has fashioned an entirely uncompromising&nbsp;yet compelling visual style to accompany the first release from Gang of Four&#39;s new album What Happens Next.The video for&nbsp;England&#39;s In My Bones, featuring the magnetic presence of The Kills&#39; Alison Mosshart, is the anthithesis of state of the art digital crispness. It draws the viewer in with the murk and blur of the photography (excellent work by DoP Tim Sidell), and creative edit (likewise, from Vid Price) to combine a ferocious band performance with snapshots of life (and death) in a English country house.It&#39;s also totally in keeping with Olivier Groulx&#39;s own work. From his videos for Arcade Fire to his recent double video for Alt-J, it&#39;s characterised by beautifully-crafted imagery. And this is just the first offering in an ongoing relationship with the post punk legends, who have worked with a fascinating range of vocalists on the new album. Olivier&#39;s video for their collaboration with German icon Herbert Gronmeyer is on its way..

This mainly performance-based promo for sister-group&nbsp;Jagaara&#39;s Faultline by Charlie James Reader is high on atmosphere, and a strong visual impact based around the use of colour.There are also glimpses of narrative, but this is really about creating a mood around Jagaara&#39;s impressive&nbsp;merging of the Seventies melodic soft-rock thing, and&nbsp;the minimal XX-style indie thing.&nbsp;&nbsp;
