Raman Djafari combines live action and animation to brilliant effect in the extraordinary new video for the brilliant Ashnikko - creating&nbsp;a Mad Max-esque dystopian landscape to transform the pop star into a monster truck-wielding hero, fighting off robot overlords as she navigates a strange new world.In an intense bombardment of visual imagination, Djafari fuses his signature aesthetic of texturally rich CGI with the unhinged, transgressive ambitions of Ashnikko, to create a wonderful, weird, high-octane action movie.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]The influences on the video range from painters Bruegel and&nbsp;Carravagio, to Bjork, to&nbsp;90s animes like Neon Genesis Evangelion - but you really have to watch on repeat to catch everything that is going on.Djafari worked closely with Ashnikko and her creative director Vassu Vu in conceptualising the video for Worms - which takes the distinctive style of his&nbsp;previous work -&nbsp;such as his massively successful video for Elton John and Dua Lipa's Cold Heart - into a whole new dimension.[imgtoken data:2]"I wanted to create a vast world that stretches way beyond the bounds of this one music video, like there's an abundance of stories waiting to be told," says Djafari.&nbsp;"I indulged my love for creature design and developed dozens of individual characters, monsters, robots and a huge monster truck. Jordan Rossi directs a high-drama, glam rock-inspired promo for Adam Lambert's cover of Bonnie Tyler's bombastic classic.Rossi helms&nbsp;an effervescent&nbsp;visual for Lambert's take on Holding Out For A Hero, featuring a cast of bedazzled musicians, hidden behind glitterball helmets,&nbsp;who eventually strip to reveal their true, unique selves.&nbsp;From the pastel backdrop through to the styling and makeup, the video is a throwback to the glamorous excess of the 1980's, and is perfectly suited to the track.[imgtoken data:1]"The idea behind the video is to throw away homogeneity and celebrate individuality, whatever form that may take," explains Rossi.&nbsp;"Adam is the perfect collaborator. We've shot together before, so had a shorthand going into this one. But he was great at really driving ideas forward. He wanted to do something fashion-orientated with a glam rock and camp twist.&nbsp;When researching the video, Rossi found himself inspired by some of the all-time greats in the industry.[imgtoken data:2]"I did a lot of visual research for this video with photographers like Jean-Paul Goude being a big source of inspiration for the editorial setups," he says. "We also gave a cheeky nod to Robert Palmer's legendary, and often imitated, videos [for Addicted To Love and others] but again with our own camp twist - with glitterball wearing robots."At every stage of the video Adam and I sought to subvert traditional conventions of music videos, fashion and pop iconography to create a piece of work that was fun, tongue-in-cheek and expressive with an incredible cast."

Will Hooper and Max McLachlan take Bally Gill on a surreal journey into the desert for Raining In LA, the first collaboration between the directors and London soul combo Franc Moody for the upcoming new album.It starts with a lo-fi&nbsp;info-mercial, featuring the band, about the joys of a new tavel agent, FM Travel. Then the gullible working guy played by Gill signs up and takes a suspicious coach journey into the desert to escape his mundane existence. But he finds himself in a very strange, upside world, and facing a very odd fate...Hooper and McLachlan are working&nbsp;for the first time as a directing duo on the project, having created visualisers for each of the five tracks on Into The Ether, the new Franc Moody album. Over several months they produced a slew of info-mercials, teasers and easter eggs which paved the way for the full-length music video for Raining In LA.&nbsp;

Maxim Kelly directs a genre-bending epic for Mercury Prize-shortlisted rock band Black Country, New Road.&nbsp;Cleverly&nbsp;balancing&nbsp;an abstract narrative with anachronistic imagery, the focal point of the story is an alien who has crash-landed to Earth, who gets a less-than-welcoming treatment from the humans who capture him.Spanning a six-minute runtime, the video is peppered with a vast array of references, from vintage sci-fi films through to low budget B-movies and classic drama films. And the Concorde plane is in there too.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]Flanked with archival footage, the video is ambitious and wide-ranging, but never once feels stretched too thin, which is a remarkable achievement for a concept that covers so much ground in it's comparably short runtime.<blockquote>We took the 6 minute-plus runtime as an asset.</blockquote>“On the surface, the concept was straightforward," says Kelly. "But&nbsp;for a band who namecheck everyone from Scott Walker to Kanye West, and the pronounced mix of genres in their music, it felt right to take an analogous approach with the visuals. Throw as many references together as possible and see if we, too, could get it all to hold together as a piece."We took the 6 minute-plus runtime as an asset. It gave us the time needed to weave as much as possible into the film. A walking video in parts, but also with a narrative running through...&nbsp; combined with miniatures and VFX.&nbsp;"The band were so supportive and amazing. They gave us the encouragement to just go off on one! And being a massive fan of their music, it was a genuine pleasure to work with them on this film.”

Rob Akin directs a&nbsp;melancholic&nbsp;portrait of stifling loneliness&nbsp;within a marriage, in his video for Jorja Smith's Home.&nbsp;The concept of 'home'&nbsp;can mean different things to different people - for some, it's a physical location, for others, it's a feeling of warmth and safety within a relationship.&nbsp;In the video, Akin explores&nbsp;emotional disconnection between a woman and her husband. On the outside, it seems they have it all - a beautiful home, a happy child and a lavish lifestyle. But beneath the surface, deep cracks are forming, and Smith bears witness to the turmoil, in her role as a Nanny within the family dynamic.&nbsp;It's a poignant emotional rollercoaster, with Akin's subtle direction emphasising the role of the unhappy wife, played by&nbsp;Kattreya Smith. Jorja Smith - who was the&nbsp;creative director on the project - also does a top-notch job with her supporting role, flexing her acting chops in an inspired yet naturalistic manner.&nbsp;&nbsp;

It's no mean feat to match the scale and ambition of Introvert, the first track from Little Simz's forthcoming&nbsp;second album. But Salomon Ligthelm has done it with this extraordinarily powerful video - imaginative, inspirational and, above all, just as&nbsp;epic as the song.Introvert is&nbsp;visceral essay about black people's lives,&nbsp;fuelled by fear,&nbsp;exhaustion, frustration and political awakening. Ligthelm's brilliant work captures the essence of the powerful emotion driving Simz's track with a stunning collage of choreography, performance, archival news footage, classical painting, home movies, and a brilliant sense of Simz's home city.The video was shot across a range of London locations, including some very grand ones -&nbsp;the Natural History Museum and Wallace Collection, as well as Peckham and Crystal Palace sports complex. Ligthelm uses a&nbsp;chopped-up, collaged structure to reflect the landscape it maps, with a succession of stunning images and sequences, shot on a mix of formats - but&nbsp;predominantly Super 16mm and 4-perf 35mm film.Ligthelm first worked with Simz on the&nbsp;Top Boy&nbsp;promo for season 3, and at the end of 2020 they talked about collaborating on a video together for her new music. The result, Ligthelm's first work since joining Prettybird in London,&nbsp;is an absolute classic of the form, where every department has excelled.Wonderfully shot by&nbsp;Joel Honeywell, brilliantly edited by Elise Butt, the riveting combination of photography, choreography and editorial, as well as direction and performance, echoes the work of director Mark Romanek, and Beyoncé, no less. It's that good.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]

Will Hooper directs a thrilling&nbsp;performance video for Bree Runway's Ape Shit, with a proper nod to old-school Missy Elliott.&nbsp;Cycling furiously through a selection of set pieces, we see Bree confidently embody several characters, with sharp styling and tight art direction, switching the usual clichés on their heads to create something fresh and unique.Will Hooper and&nbsp;art director&nbsp;Laura Little channel&nbsp;a Nineties/Noughties vibe into the set design and props, whilst DP Stefan Yap&nbsp;matches the aesthetic by utilising multiple&nbsp;formats, including night-vision and lo-fi digital cameras. It's&nbsp;an unabashed, hypnotic journey, with editor&nbsp;Sam Allen setting a breathless pace from the beginning.At only two and a half minutes, Hooper packs a huge amount into the runtime - a&nbsp;dynamic and high-energy promo in his trademark style, that boosts the buzz and mystique around the dynamic Ms Runway.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Declan Mckenna performs in a fluffy cloud like world that descends into glitchy chaos in Will Hooper's video for Beautiful Faces.&nbsp;Opening with a studio setup of Declan and his band, the utopian visuals are crammed full of colour and anachronistic styling. Within moments, the video is glitching with odd frames spliced between shots, the dreamy aesthetic slowly corrupting and morphing into something unusual.&nbsp;Utilising AR technology, the visuals become more and more CGI-driven,&nbsp;the artist's likeness bending, transforming and flying through the sky. Reminiscent of a fatal computer error in&nbsp;The Sims,&nbsp;the characters melt into the walls, duplicate and bend their limbs into unhuman form.This balance of live action and visual effects is an interesting&nbsp;departure for Will Hooper - who's last&nbsp;released video is a <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/10/16/slaves-one-more-day-wont-hurt-will-hooper/61400" target="_blank">furiously intense&nbsp;video for Slaves</a>&nbsp;-&nbsp;topped off with a confident and assured performance from McKenna.&nbsp;
