Skye Newman 'Woman I Am' by Connie Swift

Rob Ulitski - 21st Apr 2026

Connie Swift directs an unfiltered celebration of womanhood in all its forms, in the promo for Skye Newman's Woman I Am.

The video centres on the relationships that shape everyday life - best friends, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, cousins - women leaned on in both the lowest and highest moments. Filmed over the weekend of International Women's Day, fans of Skye across England were captured in candid, unfiltered moments, these portraits interwoven with Skye's performance of the song to considerable effect.

Having come from a photography background, it marks Connie Swift's directorial debut and the project carries a distinctly personal weight. She incorporated family and friends in the video and the journey, following a call-out to Skye Newman's fans to appear in the video.

The response to be in the video was overwhelming, with over 2,000 applicants eager to take part, all fans who felt a deep connection to the track and a desire to be seen authentically on screen. So in a production driven by a female-led crew - a deliberate and integral choice - the shoot became a cross-country journey spanning cities including Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield and London.

With a tight, mobile setup allowing for an intimate, documentary-style approach, it's a beautifully personal and resonant project. Dovetailing Skye Newman's great performance of the song, accompanied only by piano - this girl can really sing - it is a powerful combination with the track and its themes.
