Young Replicant rounds off his visual trilogy for Sam Dew, with the intriguing promo for DJ.This is the third video for Dew by Alex Takacs aka Young Replicant, in a series for the singer's debut album Moonlit Fools, which&nbsp;follows a network of mysterious workers, unseen by anyone, who deliver bubblegum card-like messages in the middle of the night. These then act as catalysts for emotion, stirring up heartache or desire in the recipients.The delightful first video for NTWFL sets the scene for this enigmatic scenario.[vidtoken data:0]&nbsp;Then in Gone, we begin to see the same action from a different perspective, adding characters and deepening the mystery in a classic noir style.[vidtoken data:1]The video for DJ brings Sam Dew more to the forefront in a performance setting without compromising the overall dreamlike quality. A woman is drawn by the card of Dew to a screen in a carpark where she finds him and is then transported to a deserted beach, where another&nbsp;screen blots out the night sky.Posing abstract questions about our purpose on Earth in the age of technology, and what might be stopping us from becoming our best selves, the video is painted with a melancholic aesthetic, mixing intimate, slice-of-life vignettes with jarring reminders of technological influence, in the form of these omnipresent screens and displays.&nbsp;Young Replicant has long been able to establishing a visual universe and internal logic to his work that is entirely unique, and he has refined that further in this trilogy. It's a lovely thing - while also being a terrific&nbsp;showcase for Sam Dew's talent as a vocalist.

A futile struggle between twin brothers unravels in the shell of an old church, in Daniel Henry's poignant promo for Julien Baker.&nbsp;Sharing stories of various characters, all trying to hold on to a reality they once knew, the sentimental concept studies connection and yearning across different life experiences.&nbsp;Dustin Lane's cinematography experiments with desaturated colour palettes and long, drawn-out takes to allow the narrative to play out.&nbsp;The performances are also noteworthy, with each actor embodying complex emotions with their own quirks and subtle strokes of genius.&nbsp;

Identical twins choose similar paths towards oblivion, in this Shakespearean family drama for British DJ-producer duo&nbsp;Camelphat.After saying goodbye to one another at a funeral, the brothers look for adoration in different places: one becomes a rockstar, the other becomes the leader of a cult. Through their search for control, they both spiral into self-destruction. They meet twice again. The first time, at the top of their game, they argue. But the second time, they meet under much graver&nbsp;circumstances.&nbsp;Charley Palmer Roe - who you may recognise as the spooky supporting character in absolutely everything - gives an alarming performance as both twins. The similarities between their separate lives are impressively realised with analogous compositions and match-cutting. The visual conceit drives the narrative, and there is exceptional work here by DoP Dustin Lane - shooting monochrome, as he did to award-winning effect for&nbsp;Alt-J’s Mexican epic <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2017/04/18/alt-j-3ww-young-replicant/47388">3WW</a>&nbsp;- and the director's regular editing collaborator Sam Bould.&nbsp;The Sacred Egg are still fairly fresh from their roles as second unit directors for Bohemian Rhapsody, and you can draw certain parallels between the Mercury biopic and this more insidious story. The duo are savvy enough to show us only a glimpse of this world before the video ends, leaving you curious. Who was the father of these men? Why were they drawn to take these paths and do the things they did?

A boy and a girl embark on a classic pre-romance rite of passage - the mock-serious chase - in and around the&nbsp;unmistakeable streets and buildings of Havana, in Brett Simon&#39;s&nbsp;video for Snow Patrol&#39;s Empress.Beautifully shot by Dustin Lane, winner of Best Cinematography at last year&#39;s UKMVAs, the action and chemistry between the young actors is captured with the fresh yet classic style of the French Nouvelle Vague. It&#39;s a superb&nbsp;accompaniment to a properly rousing Snow Patrol song - the second single from the band&#39;s new album Wildness is their best in ages.Brett Simon has created imagery for the whole album, to be unveiled when it&nbsp;comes out later this month. The Empress video seriously whets the appetite for that.

Young Replicant&#39;s video for Alt-J is a beautiful death march frozen in time.The six-minute black &amp; white clip is a moody, poetic journey into the afterlife. Time around the grief-stricken in this small Mexican community slows almost to a standstill as they mourn the loss of a young woman - who is seen alive with her grandmother in the first moments of the piece.&nbsp;&nbsp;Then a&nbsp;journey across a desert comes with unforeseen hardships - and we as an audience experience these moments of struggle as if they last forever thanks to some excellent post production work. A perfect, morbid, visually arresting resurrection story &ndash;&nbsp;released, approrpriately,&nbsp;at&nbsp;Easter.

Linkin Park&#39;s Chester Bennington &amp; Kiiara face opposing sides of themselves in Tim Mattia&#39;s video for Heavy.The desaturated clip centres on an addiction support group which both singers are attending, but we also witness them facing their inner demons and personal struggles in a much more literal sense. Chester and Kiiara&nbsp;spend the video arguing with and running away from themselves, each having a second physical presence in the room (thanks in no small part to body doubles and clever framing).The short clip is a gloomy portrayal of a part of recovery that&#39;s usually unseen and it&#39;s only through mutual support that they start to overcome themselves.

Helman collaborates again with James Vincent McMorrow on this moody, subtle character study.Shot in black and white with a 4:3 aspect ratio &ndash; excellent work by DoP Dustin Lane &ndash;&nbsp;the clip takes a dark turn early on when the protagonist takes a huge fall whilst skating. From there onwards the video studies the young inner-city friend group whilst this brooding pain (both physical and metaphorical) hangs overhead. Subtle low rumbling murmurs of sound design enhance the darker moments of this clip.
