Our review of 2025 continues with the directors who made an impression in the past 12 months with their first appearance on the platform - and we are featuring the work that made its mark.
Music videos has always been a magnet for up and coming talent and last year was no different. We featured numerous videos in 2025 from directors making their debut on the platform. From the 100 or so directors (or directing teams) tagged as a New Director on Promonews, we have selected 20 for our Best of 2025 New Directors list.
Many of our choices here have already been shown great promise, and been successful, in other fields, whether its short films, fashion films, ads or photography. While others are just youngsters with raw talent that we also think are destined for greatness. Some may never make another video... who knows? We just really liked what they did last year...
Tohe Commaret combines the everyday with the ethereal in a wonderfully stylish promo for French singer Oklou and her collaborator, Swedish rapper/singer Bladee.
Pietro Biz Biasia takes Meekz on a late-night mission through the labyrinthine canals of Venice in Italy, where he embeds himself in the iconic centuries-old architecture and artworks of the unique city.
Blending gothic fantasy and quaint countryside vibes, the video, co-directed by Ollie Bradley-Baker and Luvcat, sees the sultry singer ruminate on a relationship as she clings on to memories of an enigmatic man. (Okay we're already breaking our own rules here. This video came out right at the end of 2024, but director and DoP Ollie Bradley-Baker deserves his spot on this list for a succession of successful collabs with Luvcat through 2025 and his other work - DK)
An uproarious sexy comedy-drama for Mexican diva DANNA from Olivia de Camps, in which the survival of her home village depends upon her falling in love. (Not Olivia de Camps's first music video by any means, but it's the first one we featured on Promonews)
Nico De Sola creates an intriguing off-kilter vision of dead-of-night London for Dublin rapper Archy Moor... both weird and engrossing. (This was De Sola's first ever video - and it won a Newcomer award at the UKMVAs)
The promo for this stupendous track was created by a collective of filmmakers assembled specifically for the purpose by EP Juliette Larthe - as 5-person directing team Boy Dykes - with a huge cast from the queer and trans+ community.
Director and VFX artist Archie Erskine's vibrant lo-fi promo for self-produced songstress Ledbyher features a blend of Y2K aesthetics and strong, textural overlays, creating a charming and anachronistic style.
Rappers Pusha T and Malice launched their reunion with the outstanding video for So Be It... the video blends long, photographic-style shots with the raw energy of early 2000s rap visuals.
Italian directing duo LateMilk deliver a captivating video for a long-awaited return collab between the grime star and Jorja Smith - a compelling story told through a dynamic split-screen format, showcasing two parallel lives.
Victoria (De Angelis) of Maneskin brings her rock 'n roll lifestyle - not to mention pole-dancing and hostage-taking - to sleepy suburbia in Iris Luz's raunchy and riotous video for T-Shirt. (This video quickly led to iris working with artists making more serious music: George Riley, Oklou and Pinkpantheress)
James Mackel and Carlos Acosta turn Doechii's confessions on the ups and downs of fame into a replay of an '80s, '90s sitcom, where the singer's on-screen character in the show goes through big changes.
Directing duo Holy Magury direct an intense VFX-fired promo for mysterious Paris-based producer Prince 85.
The singer-songwriter has decided to fully embrace their observation that she has a striking resemblance to actress Daisy Edgar-Jones in her new video by Bonnie MacRae. And the result is almost spooky - you may believe you are watching Normal People all over again.

The director/DoP brings his kinetic style to a fever-dream in which Addison plays both platinum blonde bombshell, indulging in a surreal vision of fame's excesses, and her impish, more authentic alter-ego. (Our first encounter with Sean as a video director, although he already had a couple for Addison Rae under his belt.)
Douglas Reddan directs a mesmerising, all-choreo based promo for girl group Say Now - featuring in a sexually-charged routine among an ever-expanding field of youthful dancers. (This kicked off a frenetic period of activity for Douglas in the second half of '25.)
Leading an all-female team of HoDs, Sinclair Bryant's video for Candy Stores is an editorial-style vision blurring the line between the artificial and the real. (The director has subsequently dropped her last name for work purposes, now just known as Sinclair, and has signed to Pulse)
Gabrielle Torreborre directs an affecting promo for Spanish duo Coro & Gully... Deeply introspective and human, it is built from an abstract montage of performance and lingering narrative snapshots, building an atmospheric, gentle aesthetic.
