The great rock 'n' roll director will be talking about his music video career, and there's a tribute to Academy Films on its 40th anniversary. For anyone interested in British music video history, it's not to be missed.Music Video Preservation Society returns to the Prince Charles Cinema in central London on Thursday November 20th, for another big screen celebration of the artform and cultural phenomenon of the music video, from the 1970s to the 2020s, with a special guest who is a legendary film and music video director - arguably the most rock ‘n’ roll director of all: the one and only Julien Temple.Music has been the inspiration and driving force behind many of Julien Temple's films, from his trailblazing debut feature The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle, and blockbuster '80s musical Absolute Beginners, to numerous acclaimed feature-length docs including The Filth & The Fury, Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten, Oil City Confidential and Glastonbury. And throughout the 1980s and 90s, Julien was also a pioneering music video director, working with the likes of The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Sade, ABC, The Kinks, Dexy’s Midnight Runners, Neil Young and Janet Jackson, to name just a few. This meeting of MVPS will be showing a number of classic Julien Temple videos in full on the big screen at the Prince Charles Cinema on November 20th, and Julien will be talking to MVPS host (and Promonews editor) David Knight about his adventures in music videos with some of the world's biggest rock bands and pop stars. The final MVPS of 2025 - following the meeting last month at The Mildmay Club featuring directing legend Steve Barron and young director Iris Luz - will also feature winning videos from the recent UK Music Video Awards, plus a look at some of the most iconic work from a legendary British commercials and music video production company, celebrating its 40th anniversary this month - Academy Films. For anyone with an interest in the history of British music videos, it's an evening not to be missed. And tickets are still on sale now, via the Prince Charles Cinema website.
