Music Video Preservation Society returns on March 5th with Hammer & Tongs' Nick Goldsmith
Promonews - 20th Feb 2026
At the next meeting of Music Video Preservation Society at The Prince Charles Cinema in London on Thursday March 5th, Nick Goldsmith of Hammer & Tongs will be joining David Knight on stage to look back at some of the directing collective's classic videos - including the one referenced in the poster for this show: Blur's ‘milk carton’ video for Coffee & TV.
Hammer & Tongs - Nick, Garth Jennings and Dominic Leung - were among the generation of superbly creative talents that emerged in the late Nineties and blazed a trail in the medium well into the Noughties with videos for Fatboy Slim, Supergrass, Eels, Moloko, Bentley Rhythm Ace, Beck, REM and more - before breaking into features with Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy and Son Of Rambow.
With Nick's help, Music Video Preservation Society will celebrate the amazing music video legacy of Hammer & Tongs - before, after and including Blur's Coffee & TV. His guest appearance follows Dougal Wilson at the most recent meeting of MVPS at The Mildmay Club last month, and Julien Temple at the previous show at the Prince Charles in November.
There will be much more too besides at this latest meeting of MVPS, with a feast of brilliant music videos through the decades, from the 1970s to the 2020s, in awesome sound and vision on the big screen at the PCC.
There will be amazing alt-rock videos created when MTV was in its heyday. There will be some of the best work being made right now. And on the eve of his 35th birthday, there is a special tribute to Tyler, The Creator and his unique contribution to the music video artform.
So the latest meeting of Music Video Preservation Society promises to be another brilliant celebration of the music video - and lots of fun too. The show starts at 8.30pm on March 5th, with tickets available from the Prince Charles Cinema website.
