Baxter Dury has reached the point of no return in Tom Haines' video for I'm Not Your Dog.Following the sleazy performance and sickly aesthetic of their previous collaboration on Slumlord, there is considerably less grit and grime this time around. Instead we see Dury in a dramatic portrayal of a man in deep trouble, on the boardwalk of a city resort: it could pass for Miami, but is in fact a strip of Benidorm on a January morning, captured by Haines and DoP Steve Annis in a single take. Dury has a proper amount of acting to do in this video, but he delivers with an air of confidence and the cheeky humour that permeates both his music and persona. The juxtaposition of the dreamy beach location, and a man seemingly dying from a critical wound is ironic and dark, but it's a great fit for the artist and his alternative approach to music.
