Elder Island frontwoman Katy Sargent plays three different women dodging surveillance cameras in Nic Kane's video inspired by 1970s spy thrillers.

The video for the Bristol band's Ordinary Love allows Sargent to create three cool, colour-coded action heroines, who often feature in the same frame or in an extended camera move whilst performing the song.

It's an impressive achievement by the director/photographer and her team - including Sargent, who did her own styling of her three personas - keeping the thrills, mystery, and sense of playful nostalgia going thoughout the video.  

"Disguising Elder Island singer Katy as three different characters allowed us to create mini narratives for each, all connected by a shared theme of deception and performance," says Kane. "To further explore these ideas and the tension between the camera’s obsession and the characters’ confrontation, we used VFX to composite the three personalities into shared frames. Questioning if the camera perceives the performer's true identity. 

"The locations were important to help carve out a nod to a nostalgic spy thriller aesthetic,  bold structures, clean lines, frames within frames.

"Styling was a big part of defining each persona, bold colours and exaggerated costumes punctuate the locations and bring our attention to the characters. Outrageous disguises for characters pretending to hide. 

"Production was small and with various practical limitations we allowed a fairly broad scope for the creative aesthetic to develop, knowing we wanted a retro and nostalgic but strangely timeless tone.
