Jack Harlow 'Hello Miss Johnson' by Shadrinsky

Promonews - 12th Dec 2024
Following their marvellous music video directing debut for Yseult earlier this year, directing duo Shadrinsky return to spread their signature brand of artfully designed chaos to American suburbia for singer-songwriting superstar Jack Harlow.
It's a tale of suburban love, told through the directing team's distinctive style - mind-boggling action, captured on fixed lo-fi CCTV cameras - where a narrative is gradually revealed. in this case, it's Jack Harlow's on-off relationship with the eponymous 'Miss Johnson', from the perspective of the doorbell-cam in her parents' very respectable, possibly gated-community home.
As with Yseult's office comic melodrama for Bitch You Could Never, Shadrinsky - Yulya Shadrinsky and Marita Gurcciani - employ a small army of supporting performers to enable the wackiness of their world in a series of memorable, stunt-packed vignettes, either captured on doorbell-cam or other form of CCTV.
That's the context in which the central line of narrative comes through, as Jack goes to extraordinary lengths to demonstrate his love for the girl. And it gets very messy indeed. In fact, the vignette involving the ice statue is worth the price of admission alone. A delightful watch - and re-watch.Â
