Directing trio Three Shades partner up with Duncan Lewis to immortalise the magic of the dancefloor for DJ/producer Sub Focus's collab with UK Garage legend Katy B.

As self-confessed dance music spirits themselves, the directors tapped into their own unique experiences helping to shape a visual journey that takes the viewer into the club, through the experience of the two on-camera leads.

They track their journey of first hearing the music as they walk in, lost in the crowd, to a more personal and abstract space as they let the music take control - represented by 'bullet-time' shots that freeze those euphoric moments.

The video was filmed over two shoot days, the first at a Sub Focus headline show and the second in a studio, which enabled Three Shades and Lewis to capture the natural and raw energy of a sweaty club rave as well as the more abstract and minimal world of movement and endless space.

This also allowed them to match-cut seamlessly between two to environments, flowing from the bouncing and hard hitting energy of the club to a more intimate fantasy world.

Elevating these contrasting setups, they used a multi-camera rig to create a bullet time effect. With the aid of some 3D Gaussian Splatting - to capture real-life data into a 3D space - they were able to bring the viewer into an otherworldly space, flying through frozen moments in time as the two leads, Harriet Leaf and Miguel Waldro, dance in their own worlds.

“The two leads Harriet and Miguel had incredibly natural dance floor energy and aura," say Three Shades. "Combined with electric performances from Katy B and flashes of genuine crowd energy we hoped to bring to life that special, unique experience of being lost in the music in a rave.”
