Jorja Smith 'High' by KC Locke

Rob Ulitski - 10th Sept 2024

KC Locke directs a hypnotic promo for Jorja Smith, exuding both glamour and warmth in the video for High.

Jorja is bathed in trippy colours, under a mirrorball and neon lights - which is all within the confines of the limousine in which she's driving around. Taking in the sights and the people she passes, it's a showcase for her personality and the feelgood tone of the song.

This is the director's first collaboration with one of UK's top R&B performers, and he brings a new perspective to a hugely experienced artist. Through the fresh application of camerawork, art direction and styling, Jorja is the centre of attention while keeping things relaxed and fun.

"This project felt like a long time coming," explains Locke. "Jorja and I had nearly worked together in the past, but it never quite came together until now. The timing and energy finally aligned, and I’m so glad it did.

"When we discussed the visuals, we knew we wanted to create something that blended Jorja’s unique personality with my distinct camera and lighting style. We envisioned a concept that embodies travelling through life while being in your own bubble - your own world, your own vibe. It’s about being unapologetically yourself, feeling 'high' off life, and spreading those positive vibes wherever you go.

"The concept evolved into Jorja driving around in a stretch limo, but with a twist. The interior is a surreal, richly textured world, bathed in deep purples and blues, with disco balls and dynamic lighting that create a sense of dreamy, energetic escapism. It’s a space where Jorja can truly be herself while still moving through the world, spreading the infectious “HIGH” energy wherever she goes.

"The video culminates with a striking scene: Jorja steps out of the limo at sunset, wearing a luxurious fur coat, while motorbikes circle around, adding a sense of energy, freedom, and adventure to the moment. It’s the perfect visual metaphor for embracing life, independence, and joy.

"I’m incredibly proud of what we created, and I can’t wait for everyone to experience High."
