Liz Lawrence 'No One' by Brendan Cleaves
Rob Ulitski - 23rd May 2024
Brendan Cleaves directs a TV performance concept for indie-rock singer-songwriter Liz Lawrence, inspired by Top Of The Pops in the 1980s.
The video for No One is a trip back to the halycon days of the music TV show, featuring a retro stage setting of a band performance, in which different versions of Liz make up all the bandmembers - a nice idea that was once employed by Paul McCartney in the '80s.
With hypnotic filters and twinkling lights, Cleaves adds a further warmth and personality to the idea of a band comprised of multiple Liz Lawrences. And then there is the added comedy of a jobsworth janitor starting to pack away the band's instruments before they have finished the song...Â
