Luke Logan-Malik's video for Cian Ducrot explores the distinctively Irish tradition of the wake, in his video for All For You.

The singer-songwriter's song is a plaintive tribute to a loved one who has passed away, and Logan-Malik's film unpicks the layers of grief on an important day, with an authenticity that comes from having a non-professional cast who were seelcted for their own personal experiences of having recently lost someone close.

I did a deep-dive into the traditions of how the Irish handle death.

"After a run of car commercials, this project came up at just the right time," says Logan-Malik. "I was craving some human-led stories, and I think that urge probably dictated my approach to this film.

"The brief asked for an idea based around a wake, so I did a deep-dive into the traditions of how the Irish handle death. After spending way too much time reading old diaries and obscure folk tales, it was clear that I wouldn't need to use too much poetic license, given the wealth of iconography at hand.

"So the approach was all or nothing, we cast three leads based on their genuine, recent experience of grief, which made for an emotional and sensitive casting process. More than a few tears were shed.

"We shot across three days in and around Cork, the most hospitable of shooting locations with the nicest of people. A small crew of three kept things agile, and as we were shooting in the cast's actual homes, it allowed us to be tactful and intimate in our approach. The whole experience was a reminder of why we do this - to tell human stories and find ourselves in unexpected places, with proper people."
