The 1975 'Part Of The Band' by Samuel Bradley

Rob Ulitski - 12th July 2022

Samuel Bradley directs a enigmatic promo for The 1975, with creative direction by Patricia Villirillo, taking inspiration from cinema's greats - from Ingmar Bergman to Anton Corbijn.

The first release from new album Being Funny In A Foreign Language, the video presents an ambiguous black and white concept, with giant balloons, teenage violinists and a whole host of eccentric characters.

Shot on film, the abstract vignettes feel vintage and experimental, and the cinematography acts as the glue that binds the divergent ideas together.

The beauty of videos like this is the search for meaning and understanding, and the different interpretations each viewer will make, but one thing's for sure - it's great to have the group back.
